Siri loves to make the pigs special “restaurant” dinners whenever we get produce donated by @bowie1 or @clelandvalerie 🤩 This week it was her special pasta dish: squash noodles with spinach, mushrooms, Brussels sprouts, and tomatoes followed by a fruit salad. She had to do a presentation in Honors English this week on a hero and chose @earthlinged to research and speak about. She talked about his journey to #veganism along with his intellectual, compassionate approach to educating others and his work on behalf of animals. She also followed his lead and opted out of frog dissection, asking her science teacher for a kinder, virtual dissection lesson instead. She said many of her classmates want to do the same, but their parents are forcing them to participate. 😔 She also mentioned she continues to get bullied at school about her veganism as kids mock her, pick grass and tell her to eat it, and call her the “vegan teacher,” an aggressive Tik Toker who doesn’t give vegans a good name. While she explained how frustrating it can be (let’s face it, middle school is already rough), she also said she knows it’s worth it whenever one of her friends tells her they are inspired by her and want to stop harming animals and try veganism. POPPY UPDATE: 3/15 One of Poppy’s doctors called this morning and said he was pleased to see that her neurological symptoms were a bit improved. She is not out of the woods yet, but isn’t declining further which is good news. Dr. Speer expects her neurological symptoms are likely the result of a traumatic head injury which caused significant damage to her brain stem. 😢 If her lead poisoning results and other blood tests come back inconclusive mid-week, a CT scan of her brain will help pinpoint any trauma.
