local king fails flirting with one of the three wise
yk what I just realized? Qifrey is old enough that he was still Beldaruit's apprentice when Engendale was Wise in Friendships -> and given the fact that Beldaruit takes Riliphin to the palace, where the other Wises are constantly summoned, there's a high chance he would've taken Qifrey too. At least, on occasion
which means there's also a high chance that baby!Qifrey talked to this dude while he was still parading around on the side of humankind
which really doesn't mean much narratively- it just kinda explains why they had a base awareness of each other in ch68 and opens a door for this scenario specifically:
[Qifrey is heading back to the room Beldaruit stays in when summoned to the Palace, after having been asked to go fetch something] [It's nothing terribly big, or fancy, but it does require a bit of concentration to keep ahold of- enough concentration, in fact, that he doesn't notice Engendale until he accidentally bumps right into him] [Qifrey recoils, but dips his head in apology a moment after. Manners, he recalls] Qifrey, haltingly: ...sorry.. sir. Engendale, dusting off his robes with scoff that borders on unmasked disgust: Tch, as you very well should be. Your master should know to keep his stray on a tighter leash. [He eyes Qifrey with a look nearly vitriolic- nearly hateful enough to make the kid flinch.] Engendale: Especially one that's proven to be such a flight risk. [And then he strolls away with one last huff, leaving a stunned Qifrey in his wake. The boy blinks, once, then forces himself to do the same] [When he finally delivers the item to Beldaruit and Deanreldy, nose giving a customary scrunch at their... whole deal.. he's still a little shocked] Beldaruit, after thanking the boy and attempting to pat his head: Oh- Qifrey. Engendale left just before your return, did you pass him by any chance? Qifrey, batting at his hand and handing the item off as requested: ...mhm [Deanreldy takes the short answer as shyness, and laughs a little under his breath] Beldaruit: And what did you think? You haven't met the third of us yet, have you? I'm sure you have your thoughts [Qifrey looks to the side, on edge again but not quite willing to paint himself as belligerent in front of the king. He doesn't want his poor behaviour to somehow get Beldaruit in trouble- even if he has a thing with him] Qifrey, through a tight jaw: ...for being the Wise in Friendships, he's not very friendly. [Deanreldy snorts, hurriedly turning away but giving the boy a good and friendly slap on the back. It makes Qifrey startle out of his tenseness, briefly, but shy closer to Beldaruit all the same] Beldaruit, with a flat looking at the sniggering young King and a gentle one towards his apprentice: No.. no, I suppose he's not, is he?
Why does the Witch Hat Altier fandom have no ship fics 😭 like other then Orufrey I feel like we're dying here 💀. I also just got to the part of the manga where I realized why people shipped Beldaruit and Dean, so I might try and attempt something for them.. so you guys like any other ships other than Orufrey? 👀 Lmk!
WHY IS HE LAYING LIKE THAT LOOKING SO VULNERABLE AND TENDER AND WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THISSS
today i offer you a beldareldy shitpost, tmrw? who knows.
is there a death equivalent in soul eater au?
also, is someone stuck with or at least met excalibur (or his equivalent)?
not so much a Death equivalent- as Lord Death still exists as primarily his own character and as Principal of the DWMA... but his Vice is Deanreldy instead of Spirit -> i still want to keep that aspect of systemic injustice and failure that Witch Hat handles so beautifully, but instead of forbidden magic and the Principles, and the harsh guidelines of such, it's more.... Weapons themselves have very strict rules, and are often looked down upon
i went back and forth on this quite a bit, because i don't like nixing characters when I can explore their dynamics with characters they wouldn't normally interact with instead, but that gets tricky when they have positions of power.. T^T
Spirit, in this au, no longer has a formal position in the school- and has been relegated to simply being Lord Death's scythe. similarly, Beldaruit is Deanreldy's weapon -> They can still do as they like pretty much freely, but that's really because they are partnered to such esteemed figures. Beldaruit's position also allowed him to pull some strings to get Qifrey a job as a professor there. There's no law prohibiting it, but.. well.
The Three Wise are all Death Scythes [ironically you don't have to be a scythe to be a Death Scythe] of extreme renown and power but Beldaruit is currently the only one still partnered
as for Excalibur.. briefly, he almost partners with Coco- just due to her shiny eyed wonder- but Agott steps in to say he's taking advantage of her kindness and that she doesn't share meisters [all while clutching Coco's arm] -> It's a blatantly false statement btw, because before Coco joined the DWMA: Agott and Tetia were Richeh's partners. -> Qifrey is delighted by this, and Olruggio has to drag him off before he can say something to them directly [they talk about it together during one of their midnight snack talks instead]

Ohhh your read along made it onto my feed, glad to see you enjoy wha, I’m always excited to see people reading it for the first time!! I’m curious, what are your thoughts on Beldaruit so far? He’s the one that got me to check out the manga in the first place (I’m a sucker for the Seal Chair concept) and I was surprised to learn that he’s rather divisive among my friends who also read the manga.
ohhh i've been WAITING to make a Beldaruit post, i LOVE this motherfucker ↓ divisive, god forbid a man have whimsy and a zest for life [allow me to clarify- this is not a slight against your friends, nor anyone who dislikes him. i am simply biased]
i love his design, and how freaking gorgeous it is with his long hair and flowy skirt, i love how casual his disability is portrayed within the world [like- people don't balk and stare when they see him because he's in a mobility aid, they balk because that's the goddamn Wise in Teachings] and i love his paternal- if strained- relationship with Qifrey
and speaking of his mobility aid, seal chairs are freaking amazing btw, it is WILD that there's no- like... substitution??? for when Beldaruit's in the palace? at all?? ↓ like- he got bedsores, because he had no access to it or means of movement. that's insane to me. And, of course, I get that it is a reality of the times- especially when without magic- but.. i don't know. it rankles something in my chest
i have to admit.. i am waiting for the scene where it's like.... "oh, so that's why people ship him with Dean.." and i don't think i've found it yet
that's not to say i'm opposed to the ship, or that i don't actively ship it myself, and i'm very close to seeking out fics for it [if you have any recs, please lemme know 👀] i'm just like- where we coming from? where's the moment? what dynamic am i working with? ↓ and maybe i've missed it, maybe we really are just working with crumbs, maybe 'the moment' was the whole.. centaur thing? or the moment on the bed? i don't know.. but i just had the funniest idea
baby!Qifrey entering the palace with Beldaruit, absolutely side-eyeing their relationship with the kind of intensity you give your parents when they're flirting with someone
