I think a lot about the past Actions and choices that could have gone differently With regrets that curl around my teeth like cigarettes Past kisses acting as pivotal moments Where an album played on repeat meant going too far And traipsing on hilltops meant not going far enough Bottles strewn on beaches And gummy bears leaving residue like sap And I get weak to my knees At the weight of all that has happened And all that could have been Where one night out could have changed crowds One phone call defining my life for 4 years A Christmas present defining my life for a decade And where would I be otherwise And is it better than here

Painting in the Isle of Wight, Charles Inge looks for beauty in the chaos. His Bell-Jar series, begun during lockdown, is a celebration of life. "Each painting begins in a state of chaos. I pour, drip and use tools that I cannot control. Then, over many layers, I try and find some kind of harmony."

He has 6 of these beautiful pieces in HYGGE online art exhibition. Completed in 2022, they're acrylic on linen and 48 x 36 inches each.

Charles studied at Oxford University's Ruskin School of Fine Art and at Turps Art School. He has exhibited at the National Portrait Gallery and with the Royal Society of Marine Artists, the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolour, and the Royal Institute of Oil Painters. His work has been featured in Vogue and is in the collection of Art UK. In 2021 he won the Ashurst Emerging Artist Prize.
