Doomed best friends </3

Them because i refuse to believe they disliked each other. Sure, I can believe they weren't 'in love' in the traditional way and yes I believe that the situation they were both in caused resentment but they (as far as i could tell by the story) initially did start dating via their own choices. they must have had some sort of connection that brought them together. If not lovers at least friends.

My personal headcannon is:

They were best friends that met eachother in education. Whether through extra curriculars or classes don't matter. they met and became fast (and close) friends. But since this wouldve been the late 1910's- early 1920's a man and a woman being close lead to some social expectations. So due to the peer pressure they started dating.

And i imagine it was pretty good for a while, They were in fact happy. A little awkward about the whole romance thing because that part was more of an expectation but their platonic bond allowed them to overcome that and be comfortable. Then Faroe happened.

I think they both knew that a romantic relationship isn't what they needed but yk society. and with marriage n stuff- that felt to me very much like the nail in the coffin for Arthur at least.

Also I just genuinely think Bella would mess with Arthurs hair so i drew that (based off what? you may ask. Nothing i say. let me be deluded into thinking we know anything about this woman)

Arthur Lester is a closeted gay man and the main evidence for me is the fact that he talked about how he, despite loving Bella, didn't feel right in a relationship with her and it genuinely brought him so much discomfort and anxiety, and it'd have meant many things, but then throughout the podcast he forms deep emotional connections or homoerotic tension with many men and I think it means something
