so this was in the late 2010s during the indie wrestling boom in the uk. british companies like insane championship wrestling, progress and what culture pro wrestling were at the height of their popularity, aew didn't exist yet and tna was second only to the wwe in terms of size (outside of japan and mexico). tna is beloved now but going to work for tna at the time was seen as a betrayal to the indie scene, even moreso than working for the wwe (because even if they didn't want to admit it, everybody still watched the wwe)

this was especially true in glasgow-based icw, where tna wrestlers were usually met with chants like "dixie's bitch" in reference to dixie carter, former president of the company. drew mcintyre (formerly wrestling as drew galloway, which prompted "drew go away, back to tna" chants) got SO much heat after bringing the tna championship belt to an icw show he nearly started a riot, and joe hendry did something similar when he brought the wcpw belt to icw (but this didn't get nearly as bad a reaction because wcpw was seen as a friendly rival and not a big talent-stealing corporation like tna was)

in short, working for tna was THE biggest crime a scottish wrestler could commit in the 2010s and the easiest way to turn heel
