He laughed, a sound which sounded like the grinding of two stones. "Dimond city is a shit hole. A terrible one, filled with low life's. Like you, for example"

So Boston didn’t have the stereotypical beach per se. There were no white sandy shorelines, the water wasn’t so clear you could see to the bottom, and there certainly weren’t any palm trees swaying in the tropical breeze but Vincent liked it. He had pleasant memories of walking along the shore with his father on the rare few days he wasn’t at his office. They’d start the day with an ice cream and the tired detective would take little Vinny to a local playground and just let him play until the sun went down. Too bad those days were far behind him, what with his father having gone missing without a trace for about four years now.
Vincent strolled along the walkway, his silhouette being cast by the old street lights as he took a walk down Memory Lane. He’d recalled skinning his knee there, throwing bread crumbs to fish here. The vampire stopped beneath a flickering street light long enough to light a cigarette. There were a few joggers that he’d passed, but it was mostly quiet. For as big a city as Boston was, he never felt unsafe. Sure, there were some places you didn’t want to stick around all night, but the private eye had a feel for the city. Maybe the fact he was some creature of the night made him the thing that people should be afraid of rather than the other way around.
He turned around and rested his elbows on the railing, watching as the occasional person walked by him, not paying him any mind. His pupils slitted like that of a cat’s in the lamp light as he focused in on a certain young lady. Not wanting to appear like too much of a creeper, he gave her a friendly smile as she approached.
“Nice night for a walk.”
