“The Inner Life of the Cell” This three and a half minute animation was produced (originally eight minutes, it was edited down to 3 1/2 minutes, for entry in the 2006 'Siggraph Electronic Theater' in Boston, where it won its first acclaim) for Harvard's Molecular and Cellular Biology Department in 2005. At the time it was a landmark breakthrough in the use of scientifically accurate models of proteins (derived from atomically accurate X-Ray diffraction studies located in the National Protein Data Bank) treated with a true cinematic aesthetic, a first for scientific films. David Bolinsky was the Medical Creative Director at his animation company XVIVO. 'Inner Life' has received worldwide acclaim (Including a 2007 TED Talk by Bolinsky), millions of views, many awards and has been the inspiration ever since for a whole generation of scientific animators about how to create scientific animations.
