Wait so the minigames in FNAF3 that prove Purple Guy is the killer, they take place in the FNAF1 building... So was Purple Guy killed in the FNAF1 location? So the murders happened in FNAF2 but he got away... Then he came back years later and ended up dead? Just random thinking...

Yop. They downgraded after FNAF2 and went back to the “first location” (of the pizzeria name, not the diner) which was “let to rot” which is the FNAF1 location, but that game hasn’t happened yet. Proof of this is found in Phone Guy’s welcome message in FNAF2 where he says that location (FNAF2) is a “grand REOPENING” of the pizzeria.This is why the place is a bit more run down in that mini game than in the actual FNAF1 game (though not by much I’m sure since it isn’t raining at the time to compare the leaking issue). 

The murderer either gets rehired or, more likely seeing as how even phone guy sounds suspicious in regards to him when he leaves and makes the day shift “suddenly available”, comes back on his own. We see the result of his endeavors. As for running away, someone took the fall before FNAF1, probably around FNAF2. The news-clippings state someone was captured and convicted EVEN THOUGH the bodies were never found. With enough damning evidence and bad time/place situations + the rage of the public and jury, someone else completely innocent at the FNAF2 location could have easily been convicted. It certainly wasn’t the murderer himself because he wouldn’t have been able to escape conviction to run back and finish his deed (and life unbeknownst to him). 

Out of all the characters we know on an individual basis in FNAF2, a whopping 4, only Fritz could have taken the fall without it affecting the timeline. Jeremy was the victim of the bite (though it could be argued they still suspect him and wait until his treatments are done to take him in for a conviction). Phone Guy is still as naive and free as ever by the time his death happens in FNAF1. The murderer bebops the hell out before the investigation causes a lockdown. 

tl;dr FNAF1 was the first PIZZERIA (not diner) and was left to rot. FNAF2 location doesn’t work out so they downgrade back to the FNAF1 location before FNAF1 even happens in the timeline (where you’re Mike). He dies at that point.
