It’s interesting that you mention about his ego. I guess you can say that part of why he does all of this is for his ego. Maybe he truly loves the reader, which is why he puts her in such a high place in his life, but her being pregnant really does a lot to provoke his pride. and it’s his pride that makes him keep doing all of those stuff with his model(s) behind her back.
I’ve actually been thinking of any possible way to give a proper closure to this story. I agree that reader deserves justice. I might be able to give it one day if the inspiration ever comes to me haha thank you for reading and for leaving such a beautiful comment :)
