   rabbit is, without a doubt, a beautifully kind and selfless person, who wants so badly to wrap us all in cozy blankies, when he deserves the same in return. i have never met a more patient, calming, and warm person. and when i see him on my dash or whenever he's in my DMs sending me stuff, regardless of what it might be, i can't help the smile that comes onto my face. i've said similar before and i'll say it again, but talking to rabbit is akin to a gently rocking boat or the vibrations felt when sitting on a sea wall while waves crash into it. that sounds so cheesy, but i personally find being on or near the water calming, so that's what i associate the rabbit with lol

   that being said, he and i started talking here, on luffy's blog originally, where i immediately held him at water gun point demanding straw hat Cora.  i really really love his portrayal of Cora and we share several similar headcanons between the two of us, so this definitely helped kick off some of our early discussions. that and i think the very first thing we talked about was muay thai, because it's in my discord bio. 

   anyway, the rest was history after that, because then i dragged rabbit into everything: so many threads for cora and luffy, all the smoker and cora content ( which eventually transformed into a whole backstory with rocinante involved and an unexpected ship ), straw hat interactions with his OC Eden, and then most recently, i virtually grabbed rabbit by the shirt collar and shook him around to once again make a demand, that Eden be a part of my OC Boog's crew. that's exactly how it all went. if he says otherwise, it's a lie.

   rabbit is also incredibly smart and creative. he's super talented with knitting, even if he can't make two socks at once. his dioramas and monster furbies are super cool too, and i love when he wants to talk about them with me and tell me about it!! on top of that, despite an undoubtedly stressful and exhausting job, he doesn't mind my rants about work, he tolerates my tangents and rambles, he deals with me when i'm stressed, and he humors all the ideas that swarm in my brain like bees. how does he do it all and ALSO tap trees during sugar season?? i don't know. he truly is amazing~

   anyway, sorry again, this got so long, but all-in-all i don't think i can find the right words to truly say how much i appreciate rabbit. he deserves all the love and affection and then more!! anyway i'm gonna go cry now because i got all sappy and emotional from running on three hours of sleep and red bull ;-; i love you rabbit <3 it's my turn to wrap you in a cozy blanket and make you some tea

　hmph. so this is what he gets for caring? being berated in his own office by his little brother? his junior officer little brother, mind you; were it anyone else, the vice admiral would have strangled them with a halyard & run them up the flagpole in the barracks (since that crotchety old tsuru said murder wasn't a valid form of punishment for 'men he was responsible for protecting'). responsible? he wasn't responsible for the safety of anyone but his little brother.

　❝ i thought you were compromised ー that transponder is as much for emergencies on your end as it is on mine! ❞ a valid point, but thusfar 'emergencies' for doflamingo have been far more melodramatic than anything: calling to have rocinante vouch for him in an argument with sengoku, a check-in because he was 'sure rocinante must be getting lonely' (and not the other way around ー no, no, of course not), as well as a half-dozen other things that, really, could have waited.

sometimes he made proper use of the damn thing ー scheduled check-ins, passing on relevant intel back & forth, or coordinating an ambush at the enemy's location ー but the power to call his brother on a whim for whatever reason he wanted, stupid or not, was honestly not an authority he should have been given.

Any complaints or reassurances he wanted to make would have to wait for a little while, because he quickly found that it was becoming necessary to focus on breathing through the pain that came with this wound, and on moving in spite of it. He's always had a certain level of pain he could ignore, especially with injuries to the extremities - the benefits, if one could call them that, of familiarity with the sensation and widespread lasting damage. Permanently dulled nerves. But when he got hit hard like this, centre mass, he had to remind himself to breathe. He'd gathered Law up and sprinted them away from where the fight had occurred as soon as it had broken up, as far as his long legs would carry them without a break, but now that the adrenaline was wearing off the benefits that came with it were too. Suddenly, remaining upright was a lot more difficult than it had seemed previously. Rocinante quickly set Law down to avoid dropping and accidentally hurting him as his head swam, his resulting attempt to sit down a little more like a collapse than he was hoping it would be. Leaning his back against the wall of the abandoned building they were hiding in hurt, but that much was a type of pain he could still stifle his reaction to. More pressing pain bloomed along his left shoulder and clavicle as a heavy hand tried to find the edges, the extent of the wound, wincing at the sensation of fabric tacky with blood clinging to his skin. He didn't have the nerve to look at it yet, so instead he focused on calming the kid beside him, placing a clumsy, slightly bloody hand on his shoulder in a way that he hoped would be comforting. " Shh, hey, everything's gonna be fine - I just need to uh, just need to stop for a minute. "

   This is his fault. It’s all his fault. If Law wasn’t with Cora-san he never would have been attacked. All those people wanted was to get rid of the diseased monster within their midst. One look at the white splotches on his skin drew all their ire, their fear and hatred. Cora should have just let them have him. Hell, he really should just abandon Law and this fool’s quest all together. He’d be much better of and then maybe Law would be able to just lay down and die somewhere quiet. But no, the tall, clumsy dipshit is determined to help one dying child.

   That child hisses as he watches his would-be saviour poke at the wound. Law’s hands open and close at his sides, the kid feeling panic rise up in him. His vision tunnels to that blood, his breath coming in quicker. He feels the signs of a panic attack and he hates himself for it. Cora tries to calm him, bloody hand patting him to reassure, but Law doesn’t want that right now. He swats Cora’s hand away, stomping closer to the tall man and grasping onto his rage. The anger will get him through this, will help him focus. It always does.

    “No! It’s not going to be okay, you fucking idiot! Look at all that blood you’ve lost!” the kid snaps. He leans closer to the wound, eyeing it and trying to remember his lessons. Words from a dead father come to mind, lessons from before his world shattered. Then other lessons from later, from when Doflamingo would have him patch up their torture victims. Unpleasant but helpful. Law doesn’t have everything he needs but he can fix this.

    “Stop poking at it,” he commands, voice harsh and very serious. He then takes a moment to pull off his jumper. He shoves it into Cora’s hand. “Press that to the wound and push hard. We wanna slow blood flow. I’m gonna make a fire. Got no medical thread or needles so I’ll have to cauterize the wound.”

At first he was rather confused. He expected a response like any other, and instead, grey eyes were met by a piece of paper, a note scribbled on it. Chuckling and still very much being stubborn, Red Hair moved to sit down next to the blond, fully aware how at that point he was very much a pushover. Sure, he could have just backed off and left it at that, but he wasn't the type of person to simply not check on another who was clearly in distress, even if his help was refused on several occasions.

❝ You're right. I don't know how or when to quit. I guess I'm that stubborn. I also can't help it to want to help when I see somebody in distress, and clearly something got you upset. Figured I try and see if I can help in any way. ❞

The blond had obviously refused his help and refused to answer his questions before, so Red Hair doubted he'd get any answer out of him now, or any other reaction other than annoyance, and that was okay. It wasn't as if he was forcing him to, no matter how persistent he was. Some people just didn't want help, whether not to appear vulnerable or for whatever other reason.

❝ Mind if I just sit here with you for a while then and keep you company? No talk needed. ❞

Everyone had discussed what had happened Rocinante's wounds plus the little boy they found near him. No one wanted him in their unit as he was not able to do anything plus the child. He had refused to leave the blonde's bedside at Minion, so they just left him. Leigh had done some training when they were both joining years ago, so he had no problem stepping up to help his friend. The rear admiral decided to help his friend and even offered a position in his unit.

Due to the injuries, it was predicted that he would be useless in the field, which meant options were limited. The older male needed help in his office which would be perfect for the other as he recovers.

Sitting on the chair the maroonette was looking through the paperwork to fill out for the transfer of Cora into his unit as the boy glared at him from the bedside in silence. Finally, crimson eyes glanced over towards the blonde when it appeared he was finally waking up. A grin spread across his lips, but he did not speak as he was going to allow the child to speak first. It was definitely an emotional reunion as the boy burst out crying as he hugged the blonde.

Finally, a few minutes had passed, when he stood up from the chair and coughed to get the male's attention. "Welcome back to the world of the living Rochinate. I don't know if you remember me, but I'm Rear Admiral Leigh Ashworth."
