“My ensemble was an ode to James Baldwin ... What we agreed upon pretty immediately was using that as the inspiration, but really wanting to steer clear front of cosplaying someone and thinking about how do we play with subtle gestures. So it’s as simple as the way my scarf is tied, which is something that Baldwin did frequently rather than formal ties and the way his suiting would fall on him or his shearling coats that he would wear really became those sources of inspiration. ... I think Baldwin also feels fitting for this theme because he is so connected to the social and political black tradition that even Dandyism comes from, which is how do we use these tools and these aesthetics that in many ways were used to exclude black people and take them in as a source to be able to write in our own stories, to write our own inclusion, to draw ourselves a seat at the proverbial table.” (x)

“It was a love letter to bold eras and even bolder women. Inspired by the geometry of Art Deco and the fearlessness of Josephine Baker, this custom gown was all about strength, glamour, and owning the moment.” “I've always been inspired by the essence of Harlem Renaissance and this jazzy era. For me, sharp tailoring and an exaggerated shoulder is what I've always been incorporating in my collections. I love the '80s as well, and the fearlessness of Josephine Baker, so I think that you're going to be able to get some of the essence of all of those notes through the design.” (x) (x)

“I ... took a lot of inspiration from the 1930s and 1940s. Sammy Davis, Jr., Cab Calloway, and others of the time. ... The color was just organic for me. Of course, when you think about dandy you think about a tuxedo and you think about black and white so there was a lot of that, but we wanted to incorporate color as well.” (x)
