Golden Record is taking some getting used to but it's growing on me quickly.
I like Knives, Drowning and I'm So Pathetic. And the Catholic Girls revisited...I don't know what the fuck that is but I love it. The only song I find myself not taking to well is Anchor. I'm realizing that War Paint was about sounding pretty and Golden Record is about sounding real. And thinking back to Reach For the Sun, my brain can't even handle it -- the sound is so different. People are using the word "matured," and yeah, I suppose that's appropriate but only 50 percent of this band is original now. Ben and Matt just play differently and maybe, in some respects, better, but I think a better word to use is evolved. I need to listen to the whole album with better headphones before I can really decide how I feel, but I'm happier with this record than I though I would be. I'm also thinking how crazy their live show is going to be with these new songs mixed in with the oldies. I guess I'll find out August 30.
