New substack post on the art history of stained glass in the art of Dominaria!
The facts:
1) The mtg pre-canon novels establish that orgies are a fairly well-known fixture among some circles of Benalish society (Emery, Clayton; Shattered Chains; 1995, HarperCollins)
2) Elements of pre-revisionist novels not directly contradicted by canon can be assumed to still be canon
3) At least some cultural aspects of old Benalia still persist to the present day (As of the Dominaria storyline)
4) Angels are now comfortably integrated into Benalish society, through the church of Serra

Knights of Dominaria

Magic: the Gathering - Banalish Warriors
Warriors from Benalia with ‘stained glass’ appurtenances imbued with Magic, with themes suggestive of a renewed faith in the Church of Serra on Dominaria. Images from the latest ‘Access Magic’ video featuring an interview with Magic R&D members Mark Winters and Ethan Fleischer.
