it was for millie. how many times had ben stitched himself up like she did when she was alone? how many times had she dreaded this exact scenario? she wasn't there when he needed her and dean, and she'll beat herself up for that for the rest of her life. she couldn't take the weight of the gun away and comfort him like she did when he was younger. no matter how much she wanted to.

for the first time in her life , she heard those words . that she was not a burden , that she was not too much or a nuisance . it was enough to steal the breath right out of her lungs . how was she to respond to something like that ? what was she to think ? there was a great mix of thought and emotion . her entire life , she had felt out of place . unwanted . luke was the only one who had seen her for the longest time . ❝ d-do you mean that ? ❞ she finds herself asking , unable to fully process . a part of her needed to hear him say it again . gaze shifts to his , taking in his expressions , reading him as it to see if there was anything hidden beneath the surface . ❝ i - you . . . i do not bring hard times upon you ? ❞

"how could i do what to you, ben?" eyes close as frustration courses through her very veins. she is a tundra of emotion kept behind a dam that can never burst. "how could i help you when you needed me, how could i be there for you when no one else was able to guide you in your path? don't be so ridiculous. i kept my identity from you because i knew it would change and influence your perception of me, case in point." bitterness leaks from every word that escapes her cherry lips, jaw set in a hard lock. this was the reason behind her actions. she cannot help but wonder if this is her perpetual lot in life, to pluck at the heartstrings of others and not understand that the tune of heartbreak sounds different to them. they're at an abandoned factory, only there because lydia's death sense crept up her spine and made a home in her mind. she was in an almost dreamlike state, words not quite making sense: mannerisms very obscure in nature. she's vaguely aware of ben's presence, him trying to call her back from the whispers that hang in the air like electricity. it isn't something that she can just pull away from, it's a part of her that will never go away until the fugue state dissipates. lydia hunches down on her knees, brows furrowed into knots as she places her hand on the ground and hears the final moments of a poor soul that had recently died in this spot. a violent demise. head snaps back up as she turns to ben. "i'm sorry, i didn't mean to drag you out here with me. but something is wrong with this place. there's a darkness-- someone died here, and i don't think we're alone."
