Blazon: Per bendlet sinister wavy argent, gules a demi-cogwheel or split along the partition line and vert an ear of wheat embowed in a demi-circle along the partition line of the third

The symbolism of the charges is fairly straightforward: the bendlet stands for the local river, the Sipbach, the cogwheel for the local industries, and the wheat for agriculture. The two-part circle is really interesting visually, but figuring out how to blazon it was tough. I’m still not entirely happy with the result, but the language of blazon was not really designed with figures like this in mind.

Blazon: Per fess or two bendlets sinister between seven molets of six points 2, 3, and 2 gules and of the last a stag statant of the first

The stag is almost certainly from the district arms of Sigmaringen, which has used some form of the stag or since 1483.

Arms of Bertelmeu de Sudeley from the Dering Roll (c. 1270-1300)

Blazon: Or two bendlets gules

The de Sudeleys appear to have been a respectable, though not especially large, family. This particular individual - Bartholomew - was born in 1254 and probably died sometime in 1280, definitely before June 29th. By 1269, he was a knight, and he served as the Sheriff of Herefordshire in 1272. His son, John, was created the 1st Lord Sudeley in 1299. However, the title died out when John’s great-grandson (also John) died childless in 1367.

Blazon: Per quarterly I and IV gules three demi-bendlets sinister in chief or (Ludovisi), II and III gules a demi-dragon rampant or (Boncompagni), overall on a pale argent two keys in saltire, of the field and or, surmounted by an umbraculum shaded of the last and gules, all bound in cord azure (Piombino)

An alternate form of the Boncompagni-Ludovisi arms, incorporating the insignia of Piombino.

The marriage of Gregorio Boncompagni and Ippolita Ludovisi in 1681 united the two houses in one. As the last surviving child of the Ludovisi family, Ippolita inherited her family titles and lands in 1701, and they became incorporated into the Boncompagni family.

Blazon: Vert per bendlet wavy sinister argent, in chief a bridge of two levels, the chief of four arches and the base of two, and in base a ruin or

The ruins in the sinister base are those of Klamm Castle, dating from about 1220. The castle was apparently founded by a pair of robber baron brothers who were later overthrown by Matthias Corvinus in 1487. The bridge belongs to the Semmering Railway, which was constructed between 1848 and 1854.
