Employee Engagement is Hot
Posted on January 27, 2011 by Diane Solinger
EF’s 2010 Corporate Citizenship Study revealed strongly that employee engagement is the key driver for community programs these days. And, low and behold, because that trend is becoming ubiquitous, there are several new companies developing new tools to help engage employees and meet them “where they are” and communicate opportunities and celebrate successes through vibrant and easy to use social media platforms.
Each is a social enterprise and each is taking a bit of a different tact. To be fair, I’m going to list them alphabetically, and I am by no means, endorsing any. Each provides different options for companies and therefore, companies need to decide what best meets their needs. However, it intrigues me that there is such tremendous interest to build companies that support employee volunteering and employee giving; especially given EF’s mission to increase corporate philanthropy and corporate community engagement.
Ammado: www.ammado.com
Ammado, based in Dublin, Ireland, offers companies a truly global platform for employee giving . It is offered in 12 languages and can accept over 70 currencies. Ammado has branded fund raising campaign opportunities for companies, payroll giving programs and donation gift vouchers which can be used for employee recognition. Additionally, employees can create their own Ammado giving circle to track their giving and manage their contributions. The key differentiator with Ammado is the ability to handle all the languages and the currencies.
Benevity: www.benevity.org
Benevity is a Toronto based organization that has a microdonation software application for businesses to engage employees in charitable giving. The Spark! program from Benevity enables employees to give donations of any size to any registered charity in the US or Canada and a subset of other vetted organizations worldwide. It also offers an out of the box corporate matching tracking so that companies can easily match employee gifts, enables employees to create their own personal “foundation” (a portfolio of causes they support) and offers company branded charity gift cards as recognition rewards for employees. But, I think the coolest thing about Benevity is that it has a mobile application so employees can give when and wherever they become inspired.
RippleQ: www.rippleq.com
RippleQ, based in San Francisco, is the newcomer on the block of newcomers but offers a dynamic way to use social media gaming strategies to create employee communities of action. It crosses typical silos in companies by focusing on the employees’ positive actions and employees reward each other with points that can be cashed in for recognition and/or charitable gifts to organizations of their choosing. Environmental, health, charitable giving, volunteering, community affairs and other corporate citizenship programs can be tracked. Additionally, RippleQ has reporting capabilities that will make it easy to export data for tracking purposes and employee recognition. The nice thing about RippleQ is that it functions just as if you were on your Facebook page.
Sparked www.sparked.com
Sparked, also based in San Francisco, is all about micro-volunteering. So many companies are trying to launch skills based volunteering programs but to many skills based programs take substantial volunteering time. Through Sparked, employees can use their skills in “micro” ways, working on-line, to help organizations with projects. It can be a great way for individual employees to use their skills but also provides a platform for collaboration across departments, regions and countries. Virtual team building!
There are more companies entering or already in the space, but these four have captured my attention and are worthy of a look-see if your company is looking for new ways to increase employee engagement.
