TAKE ME TO WONDERLAND
The room was filled with colorful pillows, fairy lights, and the scent of popcorn and nail polish as the girls of Auradon settled in for their sleepover. Evie was applying face masks while Audrey braided Lonnie's hair. Jane was organizing nail polish colors and Uma was scrolling through her phone, occasionally smirking at something she found funny.
"Okay, truth or dare?" Evie asked, setting down the jar of cucumber face cream.
Before anyone could answer, the door creaked open and Haden peeked in. "Hope I'm not interrupting anything," he said with a grin. Haden was Mal's half-brother, and the son of Hades and Chernabog. His dark coat flowing behind him as he enters the girls’ dorm room.
Mal rolled her eyes but smiled. "Haden! What are you doing here?"
"Couldn't resist the allure of a sleepover." He said, plopping down on a pile of pillows. "Mind if I join?"
The girls exchanged looks before shrugging in unison. "Sure." Uma said. "But only if you don't try to steal our snacks."
"Deal." Haden laughed.
Suddenly, Evie sat up straighter. "I have an idea! Let's do a song!"
The others groaned playfully but were clearly interested. Evie grabbed her phone to pull up the lyrics, and soon they were all sitting in a circle, pillows arranged like an informal stage.
Dododododidodo Dododododidododo…
Evie began, her voice clear and melodic: "I'm not Snow White, but I'm lost inside this forest." In honor of her mother's hatred for the Princess that was “The Fairest of them all.”
Mal joined in, her voice adding a slightly edgier tone: "I'm not Red Riding Hood, but I think the wolves have got me."
Audrey sang next, her voice surprisingly strong: "Don't want your stilettos, I'm not, not Cinderella."
Ally, who had been quiet until now, sang with passion: "I don't need a knight, so, baby, take off all your armor."
Haden smiled as this line reminded him of Ben, and he sang: "You be the Beast, and I'll be the Beauty, Beauty. Who needs true love as long as you love me truly?"
Evie continued, her eyes meeting Mal's: "I want it all, but I want you more. Will you wake me up, boy, if I bite your poison apple?"
Then they all joined together for the chorus, their voices blending in perfect harmony:
"I don't believe in fairytales (no, no, no)
I don't believe in fairytales (no, no, no)
I don't believe in fairytales
But I believe in you and me
Take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland, Wonderland, Wonderland."
Audrey sang the next verse in honor of her mom, Sleeping Beauty. Her voice is soft but clear: "When I lay my head down to go to sleep at night."
Lonnie continued: "My dreams consist of things that'll make you wanna hide."
Jane sang next, her voice gaining confidence:
"Don't lock me in your tower, show me your magic powers."
Uma added her part with a smirk:
"I'm not afraid to face a little bit of danger, danger"
Haden sang his lines, his eyes distant as if thinking of someone special: "I want the love, the money, and the perfect ending.
You want the same as I, I, so stop pretending."
Mal and Ally sang together, their voices complementing each other: "I wanna show you how good we could be together. I wanna love you through the night, we'll be a sweet disaster."
Again, they all joined for the chorus, even more enthusiastically this time:
"I don't believe in fairytales (no, no, no)
I don't believe in fairytales (no, no, no)
I don't believe in fairytales
But I believe in you and me
Take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland, Wonderland, Wonderland."
They continued with the bridge, their voices softening:
"Wonderland, ooh-whoa-oh-oh
Ho-oh-oh
Ooh-whoa-oh-oh
I believe in you and me."
The final chorus was their most powerful performance yet, with everyone adding their own harmonies and flourishes:
"I don't believe in fairytales (no, no, no)
I don't believe in fairytales (no, no, no)
I don't believe in fairytales
But I believe in you and me
Take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to
I believe in you and me
Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to, take me to, take me to Wonderland
Take me to Wonderland
Take me to Wonderland."
As they finished the last note, they heard applause from the doorway. They turned to see Ben, Carlos, Jay, Harry, Doug, Gil, and Chad standing there, all smiling.
"How long have you been there?" Mal asked, blushing slightly.
"Long enough to enjoy the show." Ben said, his eyes twinkling as he looked at Haden. "I especially enjoyed watching my boyfriend singing."
Haden's face turned pink, but he couldn't help grinning. The other boys laughed good-naturedly as they entered the room, Carlos grabbing a handful of popcorn and Harry and Gil plopping down next to Uma.
"Well, since the party's here now." Carlos said, "What's next on the sleepover agenda?"
The girls exchanged looks before breaking into laughter. "I guess it's not just a girls' sleepover anymore." Evie said, passing around the nail polish.
As the night continued with more singing, games, and snacks, Haden caught Ben's eye across the room and smiled. Sometimes the best fairytales are the ones you write yourself.
What's a Coup?
Palace attendant: The Queen of Hearts has declared a coup at Auradon Prep. King Benjamin: Does... does she know what a coup is? King Benjamin: Auradon Prep is a high school. King Benjamin: That's like going to the Grocery Store, barricading the door, and declaring yourself the Mayor.

Ways to approach the poll if the character isn’t a royal:
the "we don't have to choose" lines from ben are so good but also so funny that they gave benjamin "i am LEGALLY all of your guardian and also your boyfriend, i decreed it actually i am dating every idiot on the Isle of the Lost that is interested" florian yells at his mean, currently beefing girlfriends "we don't have to choose" this child is so pansexual it's almost painful
My Version of Melody (Barriers-verse)!
(And other random facts about Seaside and her family and other TLM lore)
The oldest child and daughter to King Eric and Queen Ariel of Seaside, and the crown princess to inherit said kingdom
She's around the same age as Mal, Evie, Uma, Ben, Jay, and co.
Which means 1.) Morgana was the last serious villain to arrive on the Isle of the Lost and 2.) Uma met her aunt when she was only 12 years old (neither were particularly thrilled)
With what little she had left of Ursula's magic, Morgana was able to barely get a glimpse of the Isle of the Lost while she was a fugitive. She'd use this information as another bargaining chip to convince Melody to steal the Trident, so she could "release her family and the other poor, unfortunate souls from their unjust prison".
This is how Melody learned of the VKs on the Isle, who then voiced her concerns with a 12 year old Prince Ben (and simultaneously, his best friend, a 12 year old Zephyr) after not being satisfied with King Adam's response.
Since Morgana's attack against Atlantica, Seaside, and subsequently, the United Kingdoms of Auradon, Melody is much more cautious and wary of new people (and occasionally social events/outings).
The sparse nightmares of Morgana, however, didn't damper much of Melody's desire for adventure or her rebelliousness.
If she's not at home sneaking out of the castle to Zeus knows where, she's made it a habit to sneak out of her dorm at night for a late night swim in the school pool. If she's craving natural water, she borrows Ben's bike and takes a trip to the Enchanted Lake (the chlorine is terrible on her scales).
Once the wall between Atlantica and Seaside was destroyed (and after Atlantica officially joined Auradon), King Triton altered Melody's locket necklace to allow her to transform into a mermaid whenever she's submerged in water while wearing it. Arietta, Lyric, and their parents also received a necklace with their respective name engraved locket, Arietta's is white gold while Lyric's is platinum, Melody's is yellow gold, Ariel's is rose gold and Eric's is copper. Ariel and Eric only wear theirs if they're planning to visit Triton, but their children practically have them glued to their necks.
Unbeknownst to the royal family of Seaside, when worn, the seashell locket necklaces also protect them from most magic cast at them (spells cast by more powerful magical beings/from more powerful items will hit, and potions that are taken by the three are immune to the necklaces' defense).
Melody, Arietta, and Lyric are fluent in both English and Atlanticean Sign Language, Ariel made it a requirement for schools to teach sign language from kindergarten to 12th grade, while offering Atlanticean and Atlanticean Sign Language as extra-curriculars. It comes in handy at boring royal balls and cotillions when she's gossiping with her siblings or Zephyr (unless his hard of hearing, lived-and-worked-in-a-bell-tower-for-most-of-his-youth godfather's around)
She's the first captain of Auradon Prep's swim team to be made captain in her freshman year.
Melody inherited her mother's talent for singing. She may not be as good of a singer as she is, but she makes for a useful asset as a mezzo-soprano in the school choir.
...and the acapella show choir, Auradon's Auras, whose president (and close friend of Melody's) begged to join. It's honestly a guilty pleasure for her.
She tries out for the cheerleading team in an attempt to bond with Audrey at Ben and Zephyr's request (and loves the thrill of being thrown in the air). In return, Audrey joins the swim team. Audrey and Melody get along okay at first despite their differences. As someone who was ostracized for being different, Melody distances herself from Audrey's cattiness and elitism that definitely needs to be put in check.
Her first real relationship was with her close friend, Alex, a year prior to the events of Barriers. They dated the summer before the school year and broke up during Melody's spring break, long distance with a mermaid who lives in the ocean was not for the weak. The two are still on good terms, despite some unspoken leftover feelings one or both of them might have.
She, Arietta, and Lyric have a family rivalry with their cousins under the sea over their grandfather's affections. He loves all of his grandchildren equally though.
Before she even got the go-ahead, she decorated her dorm at Auradon Prep to resemble the waters back home in Seaside. The walls are painted sea blue, the lights are dimmed, to give the room an underwater vibe, various scented candles are placed to remind her of the beach.
She loves finding seashells and crafting them into jewelry, adding them to her clothing, or decorations around her dorm or room.
While she loves having the best of both worlds on land and sea, if she had to choose, Melody would pick the sea.
