Shifting from one foot to another, James knocks sharply on the apartment door with his fist, trying to make it sound both commanding and friendly at the same time. He was sure that Remus would kill him in his sleep if he had any idea what James was doing right this moment, but what Remus didn’t know wouldn’t hurt him. Besides, it wasn’t as if Remus had explicitly said: “James, do not confront Benjy about this.” Had he done so, James would be at home, like a good little boy, rather than rapping on Benjy’s door at some ungodly hour of the evening. Remus’ dignity and his bits were on the line here! James had to defend his friend and all his body parts and ensure that Benjy had only the most wholesome of unwholesome intentions for whatever sexual depravity the two would get up to next.
Smirking unconsciously as the door swings open, James waves the paper bag in his hand. “I’ve brought you those cards. For your brother,” he says, a peace offering before he got into the real reason why he was there.
