For the very first time in her twenty-three years, Cleo had finally had enough that she’d turned to alcohol for the very first time in her life. She walked down the rainy town of Stamford after a few too many drinks in the bar, with Bennie by her side. Presumably her housemate had found her out drinking, but Cleo couldn’t remember. “Oh no I’m fine,” Cleo slurred. “My first love fell from a plane and died, I’m in love with my best friend who never wants a relationship and my sister didn’t tell me she has a terminal illness. It’s all sweet.” Whilst there was a smile on her face and she was laughing, that was only from the alcohol. Kit had overheard Ariel on the phone and Cleo had found out through his text messages to his girlfriend - none of the family had actually spoken about it. Cleo tapped Bennie on the arm. “Hey Ben, we should get some more vodka for the walk home. I think it might be far...or not, I dunno...I don’t really know where I am to be quite honest. But how cool is that?”

Charley charged around to her cousin’s house as quickly as she could. It wasn’t often she’d show her face around there. She knew Bennie even less than Lise did and she wasn’t one to pry when it didn’t seem like she was wanted. “You’re going to have to come with me,” Charley spoke in a rush, not allowing Bennie to say anything before she did. “I found your...your urm, girlfriend? Housemate? Friend...thing, whatever. I found her collapsed and I took her to hospital. You should probably come with me to see her, right? I don’t have a clue who her family are.”

“Okay I need your help,” Cleo breathed out in a rapid pace, trying to catch her breaths. Her eyes had widened even more than usual and her mouth wouldn’t shut. “You know that lecturer I was seeing? Yeah... well, she’s kinda at our door right now and I don’t wanna speak to her so I need you to go to the door and tell her I don’t live here anymore.” There was panic in her tone, but more of humorous panic than usual panic. “Oh crap...but she saw you, didn’t she? When you saw us together. So she’ll know you know me... what do I do?”

“I kinda liked hanging out with you, actually. I thought we could, you know, do it again?” The truth was, Raven hadn’t really stopped thinking about Bennie since they’d slept together. It was unusual, but Bennie was so different to everybody else and that was what kept drawing Raven back to the redhead. “I mean...if you’re not busy, obviously. I’m free. Pretty much all the time. Maybe you could even come visit the zoo I work at.” Her shoulders shrugged, waiting for an answer.
❝ That was absolutely amazing. Now can you just please shut the fuck up? ❞
“Yeah so... I’m too pissed to know if you’re being sarcastic or not, but those fireworks were shit. An eight year old wouldn’t even ‘oooo’ at those,” Eleanor mumbled, gazing her eyes at Bennie for only brief seconds at a time. Her concentration wasn’t quite there. It was nearly Christmas, that was her excuse, though everybody knew she got off her head pretty much every evening regardless. “I’m not very good at shutting up. Just have some more fucking drink and you’ll be at my stage in no time. It’s tequila night.”

Mila had only moved to England a couple of months ago. She was a fourteen year old in a whole new world, forcing herself to be a whole new person. It was awkward at this stage; forcing herself to say and do things that she would never usually say or do. She’d made two friends. She didn’t know much about them yet, but they seemed nice. As the new girl, people had swanned around her, wanting to be friends. The excitement of having a new girl in the class soon ran out though and Roxy had been the only one to keep her interest, then there was Alex whom she’d not really spoken to, but gained friendly eye-contact with frequently. Mila considered her a friend, even though they’d spoken little.
She’d found herself alone in a coffee shop after Finn had wandered off with Stacey, that was when her eyes had caught Bennie’s. “You are very ginger,” Mila had stated in the other girl’s direction. She seemed a couple of years older, but her accent was what had intrigued Mila. It was comforting to hear she wasn’t the only girl around with a different accent to everybody else. “Would you like to get out of here and go some place else?” She wasn’t going to make friends if she didn’t put herself out there.
