Final part of The Arrangement.
A week. It took a week to be strong enough to really move around. And that’s when you headed for the hospital. You told the nurse you had a home birth with a doula, and everyone was doing fine, but you wanted to be sure.
First, your daughter got checked out while you filled out the paperwork. You heard the nurse gushing over how adorable she was, and ask her name. “Elizabeth Sam Lafitte.” Benny smiled with pride.
“Elizabeth. What a beautiful name for such a beautiful girl.” The nurse grinned, as she placed the naked baby on the scale. “What was her birth weight?”
“She was 3.1kgs.” The nurse turned to glance at you. “She was born a day before 38 weeks.”
The nurse looked back at the scale. “Okay, so she’s growing nicely. That’s a good sign, yes it is.” She cooed as she pick up the infant again. “No complications?”
“It was perfect.” You smiled, glancing up at Benny.
“Well..” The nurse started putting a fresh diaper from your diaper bag on her. “She is perfectly healthy. As soon as you’re done filling that out, I’ll give you a once over as well, but you do need to make a doctors appointment for next week for this little sweet thing, and one for yourself in 5 weeks. If you want, I can refer you to someone here.”
“We actually don’t live around here, we were visiting family when she came early, and I got lucky that my brother in law is a doula. But we aren’t scheduled to head back home for a while, so if I could see someone while here-”
“Oh, I’ll see what I can arrange while you finish that up.” She smiled and handed Elizabeth over to Benny. “You can get her dressed, and I’ll be right back.” She stopped to jot Elizabeth's weight down on her paper with the other measurements, and then she left the room.
Your little family of three was walking out about an hour later, with appointments for a check up for the baby and you, and a handful of pamphlets, papers, and a kit for a urine screening to be done then mailed in.
The first time you woke up and Elizabeth was no longer with you, you almost had a heart attack. You ran frantic through the bunker, only to find her with Dean. “I thought you could use the rest.” He told you shyly. “I mean, you were so tired after her feeding and-”
“It’s okay, Dean.” You smiled. “Just scared me for a minute.”
“Want her back?”
You watching him, how he held her, how he looked at her. “Actually, do you mind if I grab a bit more shuteye before her next feed? I am still pretty tired.”
He smiled softly. “Go for it.”
You headed back for your room and got back in bed.
You couldn’t remember falling asleep, but you must have. You checked the time and saw that you had sleep another hour. On the search for Dean and Elizabeth, you ran into Sam and Benny in the kitchen cooking. “I think I saw them heading for the library.” Sam informed you, before you could even ask.
And that’s where you found them, both sound asleep, Dean with a book in his lap. “Monsters 101, by Samuel Winchester.” You chuckled softly, picking it up. You smiled seeing the family picture of the five of you Sam had taken right after she was born, and placed on the last page.
“Happy 1 month, princess.” You kissed her head. Feeling her shift, Dean’s arm moved more around her, and he grumbled in his sleep. “Sweet dreams, uncle Dean.” You gave his cheek a kiss, and walked away, letting them cuddle together for a bit longer.
After that, finding Elizabeth and Dean reading or asleep in the library when you woke up from a nap was commonplace.
Elizabeth was 8 months old when it was decided to head back home. Dean was the most upset about it, though he tried to hide it. “I can finally sleep at night again. Between you two going at it like rabbits, and her waking up every few hours..” He grumbled.
“You’ll miss the white noise of it all.” You teased, kissing his cheek. “Should I film a night and send you a video?”
“Then I’ll never sleep.” Sam grumbled. “The sound of his fapping away will echo through the bunker.”
“Fuck off!” Dean shot his brother a glare.
“Sound travels, Dean. Especially when you’re in the shower.”
“Bitch.” Dean mumbled, turning away.
“I’ll send you that video.” You gave Dean a teasing wink that made him huff.
“You damn well will not!” Benny growled out and you laughed.
You sent Dean pictures and videos, but they were of Elizabeth. Her laugh, her first steps, all the mama’s and dada’s, and everything he was so sad to miss. You mailed him the canvas her first finger paint picture was painted on, and pictures you took of her and the family so he could frame them if he wanted to.
For her first birthday, the boys came in for a visit. Dean grinning as she tried to run to him, just to fall. But without missing a beat, she crawled as fast as she could to his arms when he crouched down for her. “Awe, you remember your uncle Dean, don’t cha?” He grinned, his whole face lit up. Sam looked at her over his brother’s shoulder, gushing at how big she got.
“How’s breastfeeding going?” Sam asked.
“You want to write this down, don’t you?” He smiled shyly. “Get out your damn notepad.” He chuckled, and pulled out a notepad and a pen from his jacket pocket. “She still doesn’t have her teeth, yet, or at least doesn’t know how to bring them down. She can get my nipples to bleed a bit, but when she’s really hungry, like really really hungry, Benny will break the skin a bit more for her. She’ll suck it back for maybe.. Five/ten minutes, blood and breast milk mixing together, and fall right to sleep.”
“Interesting..” He muttered, genuinely intrigued. Since the bunker was suppose to house all the information the world had to offer on supernatural beings, he figured adding vampire babies to that was his duty, since he confirmed, it simply didn’t exist. “Is there-”
“Sit. You can ask away, and Dean can enjoy his little Princess.”
“Don’t get too comfortable, Dean. We’ve got a car to unload.” You cocked an eyebrow. “Dean went a bit crazy shopping for his little Princess.” Sam laughed.
“Benny gets home in about an hour. He can help if Dean bails on you.” You and Sam went towards the kitchen. “Coffee?”
“Please.”
“De!”
“DID YOU HEAR THAT!?” Dean hurried in as you set a mug in front of Sam. “Say it again, Princess.” he grinned, waiting.
“Da.” She laughed as his face fell.
“Oh, come on!” Her giggle fit was in full swing as he tried to coax her into saying it again, and she responded with anything but. “I give up.” he muttered in defeat.
Her little hand hit his cheek, then pulled on his bottom lip, trying to make him look at her again. “De!” she screeched.
His face lit up once more, and he turned to you and Sam. “We heard, Dean.” Sam smiled.
“You might have Uncle Sammy’s name, but I'm your favorite, right?”
“De! De! De!” she laughed, hand smacking his shoulder with every time she said it.
They never missed a birthday. Never. Always in town to celebrate for the whole week. A present for each day, and then two or three on the day of. Saying Elizabeth was spoiled, was an understatement.
They spoiled her.
Benny spoiled her.
Any time she visit Benny at work, everyone there spoiled her. Slices of pie, or extra something with her order. Or small toys from the little machines in the corner.
She was to be home schooled for obvious reasons, and you started her early, since you could. At two she was counting, learning colors, numbers and letters. You let her go at her own pace, she had time.
When her teeth started to bother her, Benny taught her control. Then taught her to control the hunger. When she got hungry, she just bit into you and drank, and shed leave you weak and tired. She was three when those lessons started. She barely understood, but Benny managed. By four she had some self control.
When her fifth birthday was days away, and you hadn't heard from the Winchesters in months, you packed up. Benny complained you were packing too much stuff, but you ignored him, pointing out that if something was wrong, you might be sticking around. “They've never missed a birthday, Benny.”
“Yeah, you're right.” he sighed.
Elizabeth loved the idea of a long drive to see her uncles. Until she realized just how long it was. Then it was a string of “Are we there yet”, “I'm hungry” and “Oh can we stop and see that?!”.
And he did, from time to time Benny would pull the truck over and let her see what she wanted to see. Cows grazing or horses running in a field. He let her out to pick fresh corn, fresh berries, fresh apples. You saw ‘the worlds biggest’ something at least three times.
And she loved every moment. Until she was back in the truck and then- “Are we closer yet, daddy? Why is it taking so long?”
Until she finally fell asleep. Benny was happy to drive through the night without interruptions, without impromptu stops. Your arm along the back of the seat, fingers brushing along the nape of his neck and in the short hairs there. “Putting me to sleep, Darlin’.” he smiled, glancing over at you.
“Sorry.” you smiled sleepily.
“Get some sleep while you can, ‘cher. We'll be there soon enough, and the tornado will be in full swing again.” he motioned to his daughter.
You smiled, leaning over to kiss his cheek. “I love you, Benny Lafitte.”
He grinned. “I love you too, Y/N Lafitte.” You blushed and closed your eyes your fingers blushing along his neck one last time before you curled up to try and sleep. “Best damn thing to ever happen to me.” he smiled to himself as your breathing steadied.
“Mon amour?” You hummed, shifting. “Cher, wake up, we're in Lawrence.”
“We're there!?” her scream snapped you awake, making you jump. “Finally!” her head went back with an exasperated sigh.
Benny laugh. “We are, mon petite chou.” he glanced at you. “You hungry?”
“What time is it?” you stretched, as much as you could in the confined space.
“‘bout 8am.”
“Mm. Sam and Dean’ll probably be making breakfast soon. We'll join em. Miss their cooking.” you smiled, mouth watering at the thought.
Less than an hour later, you were walking down the stairs. “Honey, we're home!” you called out.
“Uncle Dean! Where are you!” Elizabeth screamed at the top of her lungs and rushed past you.
“Bethy.” Benny warned.
“Princess?” Dean called out, coming around the corner and looking a little worse for wear.
“Uncle Dean!” she hit the ground running, slamming against him.
“Elizabeth?” Sam came out, cast on his arm. “What are you guys doing here?”
“It's my birthday tomorrow!” she looked up at Dean. “Did you forget?”
His shoulders dropped. “Shoot, I'm sorry, princess. We got a little busy, and Sammy got hurt-”
“You have a booboo, too.” she poked at the stitches on his forehead, making him wince.
“Bethy.” Benny warned her again.
“Wait!” she dug deep in her pocket and pulled out a bandaid. She had a huge grin on her face as she placed the my little pony bandaid over his stitches, then grabbed his cheeks and tilted his head down to kiss it.
“Do you always have bandaids in your pockets?” he laughed.
She nodded. “I get lots of boo boos.” She showed him her knees.
“A good Winchester is always prepared.” he gave her a wink. To her, being called a Winchester was like being in an elite club, she loved it.
“The wife wanted to be sure you boys were okay.” Benny told Sam, pulling him into a hug, while Dean smiled and hugged you. Then you switched. “Packed us right up and we drove all night.”
“You never miss a birthday.” you pointed out. “And we haven't heard from you in months.”
“Things got a bit busy.” Sam told you. “But we're glad you came.” he smiled. Then he noticed the luggage you brought. “How long are you planning on staying?”
You chuckled softly. “A while, if you don't mind.”
“Never.” Dean grinned, booping Elizabeth on her nose.
You smiled, watching them, then suddenly noticed a man behind them, quietly watching as well. “Hello.” you gave the man you didn't know a soft smile.
“Hello.” he answered, but made no move to come closer, or say anything further. He just watched.
“That's Castiel. Castiel, this is Y/N, Benny and their daughter Elizabeth.”
“Yes. I've seen their pictures.” you glanced to Sam who just gave you a shrug.
“He's an angel.” Dean told Elizabeth, and she gasped, looking up at the man with wide eyes.
You looked to Sam again. “The angel?”
Sam shook his head, but Dean gave his brother a confused look. “What do you mean, no? Sammy, he's the only angel we got.” You chuckled softly and Sam shook his head again. “What?”
“Sam once told me that you had.. relations with an angel.” You tried to keep it PG in front of your daughter, and Dean's eyes went wide as the realization hit him.
“I'm gonna put a fucking muzzle on you.” he growled, pointing at Sam. Elizabeth gasped, and ran to her little Hello kitty luggage, pulling out a jar with some quarters in it. “Are you shitting me?” he asked, when he saw the label marked ‘swear jar’. She shook it again, the quarters in it clinking together and against the glass. With a grumble, Dean dug into his pocket.
“I wanted a new doll, but mama said I had enough dolls, so she's not buying. Mama also says with a swear jar, visiting you, I can buy ten dolls.” she grinned up at him.
Dean shot you a glare as he put in a ten dollar bill into her jar. “That should cover me for today.” He ruffled her hair. “As for my relations, that's a topic not up for discussion.” he glared at his brother.
“Mama, what's relations?” Elizabeth looked up at you as she put her jar down on the table.
“It's how babies are made.” You hoped she accepted that for now, and didn't ask more into it.
She gasped, eyes going back to her favorite uncle. “Is uncle Dean gonna have a baby!?”
You'd never seen Sam laugh as hard as he did in that moment. His whole body shaking as he first leaned back, and then doubled over.
“I'm not having a damn baby.” Dean looked almost mortified at the idea.
“But mama is having one.”
“What!?” The three of them said it at once, Sam no longer laughing.
“Surprise?” you gave Benny a shy smile. “It's kind of the real reason I insisted on coming. I was hoping Sam could reprise his role as my doula.” You smiled.
“Are you serious?”
“Cher-” Benny was stunned.
Elizabeth ran to her luggage again and pulled out a book. “We're gonna need a new picture for my book, Uncle Sam!” he gave her a nod. She moved over to the stranger and tugged on his trench coat. “Are you family too? Will you be in my book?” she held it up for him.
“Yeah, he’s- he's family..” Dean dropped into a chair, letting it soak in that they'd have to go through all that again.
“What do I call you?” she asked him.
“Cas. You may call me Cas, like they do.” He took the book from her, and glanced at the cover, seeing Sam had made it for her. He flipped through the pages, noting a drawing of the girls father where it said ‘vampire’. He smiled when he go to the angel page and saw a drawing of himself.
“Is that you, uncle Cas?”
He nodded. “Yes. I believe that is me.”
“Will you be in our picture too?” She flipped to the last page and showed him. “That’s me.” she pointed to the baby.
“I would be honored, little one.”
