It was an Epic Swell 🌊 On July 4th weekend 2014 10 to 20 foot waves hammered #NewportBeach. Like most surfers I caught my share of sketchy waves that weekend. But it was on Sunday July 6 2014 that #Lifeguard Ben Carlson was on duty. Ben dove into the huge waves to save a swimmer. The swimmer made it to shore but Ben was sucked under a never made it out. This statue honors his service and is great reminder of all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice. #benwouldgo (at Newport Beach Pier)
