Berena drabble, G, no warnings. Bernie is tired after a long shift at the hospital and just wants some caffeine to wake up before the Christmas visitors arrive...

Bernie stares in dismay at the kettle on the countertop.

It's been minutes already and the water still isn't boiling.

"It's broken." She whines at Serena who enters the kitchen.

"You know you can still boil water on the stove, right?" Serena asks, quite amused by her caffeine deprived girlfriend.

Bernie gives her a look of pure betrayal. "Too slow!"

"Well, then I suppose you'll have to eat coffee beans."

"Betrayed, by the kettle and my own girlfriend," Bernie sighs. "And after working the Christmas nightshift!"

"Oh, go sit down, I'll boil you some water, love." Serena kisses her cheek.

Berena Advent 2018 - Day Three - Carol Singing

Holby City Bernie Wolfe x Serena Campbell

Bernie really didn’t know how she had gotten dragged into this, she knew it was down to Serena she could never say no to Serena. But still, she didn’t remember actually saying yes. Yet here she stood in the freezing cold bundled up in as many layers as she could fit under her coat, surrounded by members of AAU and Keller who weren’t working the nightshift, sharing a hymn sheet with Serena singing carols while passers by either visiting patients or patients themselves chucked change into a bucket while they passed. A small gathering of people had come to watch them, making Bernie feel even more uncomfortable. But looking out the corner of her eye towards Serena made it worthwhile, similar to Bernie, Serena had as many layers as she could fit on under her coat to battle off the biting chill of the icy wind. Her cheeks flushing red from the cold but smiling all the same as she sang enthusiastically.

Berena Advent: Gift wrapping

All prior evidence to the contrary, Bernie Wolfe is actually very good at gift wrapping. Twenty-three years in the military is enough time to have hospital corners pummeled into your muscle memory; the technique translates into wrapping quite nicely, thank you very much.

Serena’s face lights up as Bernie removes Guinevere’s Christmas gifts from her tote, and Bernie knows it’s because she was expecting toys wrapped in yesterday’s comic strips, slapped together with far too much tape. Perhaps a gift bag, if she was lucky.

“Ever the mystery, Ms. Wolfe,” Serena says with a wry smile and an arched eyebrow.

Back from her last deployment and in the middle of a messy divorce, Bernie tries to appease her daughter by buying her favorite fruit: tangerines. Meanwhile, Serena has just unwittingly bought the last ones at the market right before Bernie can ask for some - but of course, Serena is willing to help out a fellow mother of a difficult teenage daughter! That Bernie is nice to look at doesn't hurt, either...
