Bernard Delfont:  I would love to have dinner with you...unfortunately, I’m due at the theater in 10 min. One of my other acts...Norman Wisdom?

Ollie:  To be honest...I’ve been a little disappointed...and I think it’s because of all of these small theaters we’ve been playing. I don’t know what happened with the larger theaters we’ve been talking about. 

Bernard:  Well they said they were all booked up.

April 1, 1965 || Brian Epstein on the day he became controlling leaseholder of London’s Saville Theatre. He bought a controlling interest from the previous sole shareholders, Tom Arnold (pictured left) and Bernard Delfont (right) who stayed on as directors until Epstein bought out their shares to gain complete control of the lease on July 11, 1966.

The two page letter refers to Brian’s presentation of the 1966 West End revue Way Out In Piccadilly which starred Frankie Howerd and Cilla Black. It details the finances, organisation and management of the production.

Brian Epstein, Gerry Marsden, Alma Cogan, Lionel Bart, Bernard Delfont and Maurice Kinn are among those in attendance at the annual ball held by the Hospital Wing Aid Committee of the Home for Aged Jews, at the Adelphi Hotel, Liverpool. This year the dinner is in honour of Brian Epstein.

The New Musical Express reveals that Brian Epstein has turned down an offer of £8,000 for the Beatles to play a concert at the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City. Also in this edition, the paper speculates that the Beatles talked Brian Epstein out of a ‘big deal’ with Bernard Delfont. And it says that one can ‘discount rumours linking Alma Cogan’s name romantically with Brian Epstein.’

Brian flies to the USA with the Beatles, at the start of the visit which, within hours, propels the group to perennial headline-makers. In New York Epstein employs a local temporary personal assistant, Wendy Hanson, who later becomes his personal assistant.
