Bernd Lambert (December 28, 1932- January 3, 2015)
It is with great sadness that we share the news of Bernd Lambert's passing. Lambert was a professor in the Anthropology Department at Cornell University from 1964- 2003. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of California - Berkeley in 1954 and a PhD from the University of California - Berkeley in 1963. His focus was on social anthropology in Oceania and North America. He did fieldwork in Kiribati and his most recent talk was entitled "Mothers and Sons: The Female Side of Kiribati Culture Heroes". He taught many classes over the years. His most popular courses included Myth, Ritual, and Symbol; Cultures of Native North America; and Kinship and Social Organization. Bernd was an incredibly caring and generous mentor and friend to generations of students. Bernd loved books and was a fan of San Francisco sports teams. He will be greatly missed.
Bernd Lambert's funeral will be held at 1:30 pm on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Temple Beth-El , located at 402 North Tioga Street in Ithaca, NY, followed by the burial at Long View Cemetery in the Temple Beth-El section. Coffee will be served back at Temple Beth-El after the burial.
