#currentlyreading #JaneAustenJuly The Secret Diary of Lizzie Bennet by Bernie Su and Kate Rorick Bookmark by @sonnetandfable #JaneaAusten #TheLizzieBennetDiaries #BernieSu #KateRorick https://www.instagram.com/p/CC6UmQNARXG/?igshid=18xh1viw30re3
THAT WAS TERRIBLE SOMEONE FIX IT
Pemberley Digital and Bernie Su liked my frankenstein, m.d. post and that makes me happyyyyy
Yay, Lizzie Bennet Diaries won Best Drama and Ashley Clements won Best Actress! LBD was so well done, it really made me reconsider how I view web series'. I mostly go on Youtube to watch clips or random videos of babies tasting lemons for the first time, but after seeing how sophisticated the production value was of LBD, it opened my eyes to how web series can be a great form of entertainment. So far, I still only trust anything produced by Pemberley Digital, the production company behind The Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Emma Approved. I'm sure I will watch more web series in the future.
And I loved Bernie Su's shoutout to books!
"Thank you for honoring the show that inspired many young creators to read books, read the classics, and to tell stories in new ways." - Bernie Su
VidCon Day 1
The Cracked Slate team had a blast at VidCon and it's only day one! Here's a quick snapshot of some memorable moments (with more to come as VidCon continues!)
Remember to follow us on Twitter and Instagram and come to the Cracked Slate meet up tomorrow to get your own postcard. We'll post more details in a bit.
2/3 of @shipwrckdcomedy like @crackedslate!
@berniesu is a kindred spirit!
Who knew that @jimmyfallon was an Anne of Green Gables fan!
Hanging out with @coreyvidal.
Is anyone else wondering if they're going to go the route of Clueless and make Frank Churchill gay?
Or am I putting too much into the look he gave Alex?
I need to go back to sleep. I'm over analyzing web series.
Mansfield Part 12
Edmund: (On the phone, leaving a message.) Frankie, come on. You have to pick up some time. You can’t stay mad at me forever. (Sigh) You know, I thought you said you were okay with Mary and me going to Carmen. I mean, it’s not like we couldn’t go see the movie later. (Pause) I’m sorry, that sounded harsh. It’s just…ever since Mary came into town you’ve been really distant. I don’t know why.
Intro
Mary: (Coming into the room, and interrupting him) Hey Edmund, what are you doing?
Edmund: (Looks at her) Leaving a message for Frankie.
Mary: (Sighs and takes his phone from him. Speaks into phone) I’m sorry he’s been bothering you so much Frankie. You have my word that I will not let him dial your number again. (Hangs up) There.
Edmund: What was that for?
Mary: Edmund, you have sent her several tweets and texts. You have left her countless messages. She hasn’t gotten back to you. There is a time to stop, and you reached past that point a long time ago.
Edmund: Mary-
Mary: (Holds up hand) I don’t want to hear it, Edmund. She will get back to you when she wants to. Just leave it alone. (Flippant tone) You know, I honestly don’t know why she’s so upset with you. She did say that it was okay for us to go to the opera. Besides, you can catch the movie later. (Examines nails) Oh, look at that, one of my nails chipped. I’ll be right back, Edmund. I need to run down and fix it. (Takes his phone) I’ll have that.
Mary leaves, Edmund sits awkwardly in front of the camera. After a few moments, Mariah and Julia come in and sit on either side of him.
Mariah: Edmund, Julia and I need you to settle a dispute.
Julia: It’s not much of a dispute, seeing that she is going to be engaged.
Mariah: It is too a dispute. We’re arguing about it. Therefore…dispute.
Julia: Well then it shouldn’t be a dispute-
Edmund: What in the world are you two talking about?
Mariah: Henry Crawford.
Edmund: What about him?
Julia: Mariah thinks that Henry likes her better than me, and I’m telling her that’s not possible because she is engaged.
Mariah: Being engaged does not affect my likability. I can be engaged and Henry can still like me better than you.
Julia: Well, he could like you better, but I could still date him.
Mariah: (Laughs) Date him? Date him? Oh, honey, you are sorely mistaken if you think Henry has that kind of interest in you.
Julia: Mariah! (Looks at Edmund) Edmund! Tell Mariah that what she said is rude!
Edmund: Look, I honestly could care less about which one of you Henry likes better.
Mariah: Which is me.
Julia: Is not!
Edmund: Don’t care! (Pause) Look, if all you two are going to do is argue over Henry Crawford then please leave my room and do it in your own space.
Julia: We just wanted to know your opinion.
Edmund: My opinion is that Henry should like both of you equally, but if he is showing interest in either of you, there is a problem. First, Mariah you are engaged. And second, Julia is too young. There. That’s my opinion.
Julia: Well, you’re really no help are you.
Mariah: He’s just upset because Frankie hasn’t been talking to him.
Julia: She hasn’t?
Mariah: No. I’ve noticed she hasn’t been around as much since the Crawfords came.
Edmund: She’s been busy.
Mariah: I’m sure that’s the reason. (Shrugs) I’m not complaining at all. It’s good that she’s finally stopped mooching-
Edmund: (Angrily) Get out! Both of you!
Mariah: (Holds hands up defensivly) I’m sorry Edmund, I was just giving my opinion.
Edmund: And I don’t want to hear it again.
Julia: There’s no need to yell, Edmund.
Edmund: When you insult my best friend? Yes, there is a need to yell Julia. Now get out!
Mariah: Whatever. Paul’s waiting for me anyway. Come on Julia. Let’s leave Mr. Grumpy here.
Julia and Mariah leave just as Mary comes back into the room.
Mary: Oh, what did your sisters want? They didn’t want to talk to me, did they? Oh, I do enjoy talking to them, they’re very sweet and I absolutely (notices Edmund’s angry expression) Edmund, what’s wrong?
Edmund: Nothing. (Turns to her) Give me my phone.
Mary: Why?
Edmund: Give. Me. My. Phone.
Mary: Edmund, if you are just going to call Frankie again-
Edmund: Don’t you dare.
Mary: Dare what?
Edmund: Don’t you dare insult her! She is one of the nicest, most caring, funniest, and brightest women I know, and she does not deserve the loathing and cruel taunting of others simply because she is not rich. She has had a very difficult life, and none of it is her fault. She has no control over her situation. She deserves a lot more than what she has. And she especially deserves a best friend that can keep a promise, which is someone immensely better than me-
Mary: Ah. (Touches his arm.) I wasn’t going to taunt her, Edmund. I like Frankie. I do. I was just going to say that you shouldn’t call her. Let her come around and cool off.
Edmund: Mary, you don’t understand-
Mary: I do, Edmund. I do understand. You feel bad that you blew her off for me. It’s okay. (Pause) Look, I know that I’m this new person in your life, and that, in a way, I’m an interloper into your relationship with Frankie. Girlfriends always get in the way of friends, and it’s not an easy thing to navigate, especially when said friends are girls. I’m sure Frankie is just feeling a bit threatened by my presence in your life.
Edmund: I don’t think-
Mary: (Holds up hand) Edmund, I’m a woman. I think I know a little more about these situations than you do. (Pause) Look. I’m not saying she has a crush on you or is in love with you, that’s not at all where I’m going. All I’m saying is that she wants what is best for her friend, and as a woman she is more than likely to care much more. It’s just the way we are. We are baskets of emotion. Like I said, I’m new and that makes me a bit of a threat. She wants you to be happy, and maybe she’s worried I will break that happiness.
Edmund: Mary-
Mary: I’m not done. You need to show her that you are happy with me…You are happy with me, right Edmund?
Edmund: Yes, Mary, I am. You are one-
Mary: That’s all I needed to hear. So show her you’re happy with me, and I’ll show her that I would never do anything to hurt you. Then, perhaps, she wouldn’t react in such a way.
Text
Mary: Oh, speak of the devil. It’s Frankie.
Edmund grabs the phone
Mary: I told you, she needed time to cool off.
Edmund: (Reading text) Sorry I haven’t been in contact…my phone died…couldn’t find the charger…Susan took my laptop for a couple days…so I was totally unplugged. (Sends text back) So…you weren’t mad?
Mary: She wasn’t mad?
Edmund: I don’t know.
Text
Edmund: (Reads it) No, she wasn’t. She was a little disappointed, but not mad. (Smiles and text back) Sorry anyway…and sorry for thinking you were. Send.
Mary: So she wasn’t mad?
Edmund: I guess not.
Mary: Oh, well…that’s good I guess.
Edmund: That’s very good. I’m glad she wasn’t mad. (Text) Ah. Yes, this Friday we can go see the movie. (Texts) Promise.
Mary: You’re going to the movie this Friday?
Edmund: Yes.
Mary: Could I come?
Screen goes black.
