----------- New Age Music ------------- I decided recently to get caught up with the latest in New Age music. It has been quite a while since I bought any albums; the CD's in my collection -- all 5 or 6 of them -- were acquired back in the early 1990s. Two of the artists, Govi and Bernward Koch, are still going strong. If I were going to buy more music from these artist, my pick would be Govi's "Guitarra Mistica" and Koch's "Walking through Clouds." I actually could not find any current artists I like better than these two; however, a few are producing good stuff that is new and different. For example, Scala and Kolacny Brothers have made some fascinating arrangements of popular pieces for choir and piano, done in the classical style. Snatam Kaur, in her album "Grace", sings beautifully, accompanied by music of an Eastern flavor, in praise of Christian love. Having not followed New Age music since the 1990s, I did miss some good music along the way, judging from samples I listened to on the internet. Some songs from the album, "Best of Secret Garden" (by the group of that name) sound very good. Also, David Arkenstone's re-issued album "Valley of the Clouds" appears to have some outstanding tracks. Of course, the two mostly widely known New Age artists today are Ena and Yanni. I am sure they have put out some great songs, too, but both of their discographies are so lengthy I did not had time to sample their music.
