During my Freshman year in college (1989), I saved my money and purchased my first art supplies. Honestly, I couldn’t really afford them, but each time I walked into the bookstore they would call to me. Half way through the semester I finally had the $34.57 I needed for the drawing sticks, and a friend let me borrow $15 for a top grade sketch book. When I got back to my dorm room, I opened the box, placed the opened package near my nose, then took a deep snuffle of each color. 32 years later, they are still with me. On occasion I will use them, but mostly they are a reminder to always follow what speaks to your heart. After finishing some abstract watercolor pieces, I got them out and contemplated using them to add some detail. . .
