So, I've started to find Berri more interesting as a character ever since Chris Seavor tweeted this about her:

And I was like wow finally some characterization for this girl! But some weirdo was getting really defensive about her, saying she could never be evil, she shouldn't be mad at Conker for what happened, yadda yadda. Anyway, that was like nearly a year ago. I recently made a thread on Bluesky about how I don't think the fandom's common perception of Conker and Berri as a couple is correct and that they're made for each other because they're both terrible, selfish people. Someone who I think is the same weirdo from Chris Seavor's thread from last November started arguing with me and it got me thinking.

The fact that people like this guy idealize Berri, who is a sexy female character and love interest, as someone who should never be antagonistic towards her very flawed boyfriend, Conker, is not at all lost on me. You guys want her to be this loving, doting, forgiving girlfriend. What about her agency? Honestly I feel like her being mad at Conker for letting her die and going on to be an antagonist in Other Bad Day humanizes her. But no, y'all just want her to continue being a sexy lamp and project your perfect waifu headcanons onto her. Like it was easy to do that with Bad Fur Day because she barely had any presence, but now there's more information about her from the script of Other Bad Day that contradicts your idealized version of her and some of you cannot cope.

Now, I don't even like everything about Other Bad Day's script. I don't like how the Panther King holds a grudge against Conker and not Ze Professor, or how Conker ends up teaming with the Panther King. Or how Don Weaso is only in it for like one boss battle. So no, it's not perfect and I don't regard Chris Seavor as my god or something weird like that. But I just think it's very telling and sad that the minute the sexy girlfriend of the main male character that's supposed to represent the majority of male gamers is revealed to be angry at said main male character that's supposed to represent the majority of male gamers, some of y'all lose your minds. Ask yourselves why you get so twisted over Berri being an antagonist in Other Bad Day. We didn't know much about Berri in Bad Fur Day, so you can't really argue that it's out of character for her to be angry at Conker.

Don't think she deserved to get killed? Okay, well let's talk about female characters getting killed off to make us feel bad for male characters. Oh? You're just sad she dies because she's hot? Well, then...

And for those of you who say "oh but I just want Conker to have a happy ending" I mean, I understand, but at the same time that's not what Conker's Bad Fur Day is about. Conker's Bad Fur Day is about a somewhat okay if kinda selfish guy losing sight of his original goal to get back home to his girlfriend to focus on his financial gain and becoming a huge jerk in the process and then losing the thing most important to him because he became a huge jerk. I mean he murders a newborn baby, guys. He's not someone deserving of unconditional love from a pure of heart girlfriend who also happens to be hot.

And also, what little personality Berri displays in Bad Fur Day does point to her being a kinda terrible, selfish person. Like I'm sorry, but it's true. Her answering machine says she'll entertain anyone who "sounds cute" despite having a boyfriend, she's all over Don Weaso, and she was willing to rob a bank for Weaso and kill some innocent bank guards that were just doing their jobs in the process (rest in peace weasel bank guards, forever in our hearts).

So yeah, um. Get over yourselves, maybe?
