My first entry for @donutloverxo 3K challenge. Love ya Berry and I can’t wait to see what you create next year.
On to my review.
Welcome to the Pack.
You like Steve Rogers, want a Steve Rogers that is a protective Alpha who would do anything to protect you. Someone who loves every single part of you, flaws and all (although he would insist that you’re flawless).
Look no further than Welcome to the Pack.
What can I say about this story.
Its one of the best A/B/O stories that I have read so far. Amber ( @sweater-daddiesdumbdork) has this unique take on the genre. And I can’t recommend it enough.
(And often A/B/O stories can overuse certain tropes and become so repetitive but Amber avoids that)
To start it involves one of the sweetest, bravest readers written and a perfect alpha in the form of an incredible Steve Rogers. Their inner wolves are in turns hilarious, insightful (and sometimes smarter than Steve and the Reader)
The side characters which include Bucky, Sam and Sara are wonderful and feel like actual people and not just props to aid the story.
The world building is intricate and from the first sentence I felt like I tumbled into another world. One I didn't want to leave.
To give a little background:
The reader is an omega escaping an abusive situation and from the first time she meets Steve, their chemistry is palpable. He’s protective, passionate and most importantly wants her to be safe and loved, to be her best self. Her journey to learn to trust again and discover that not all men are like the abusive ones from her past is one that will stick with you.
There are heartbreaking twists and moments that will leave you breathless. Each chapter builds on the last and you’ll find yourself rooting for these two (and screaming for them to just get together already), falling in love with Bucky, wanting to know more about Sam and Sara.
And there are so many wonderful chapters and the drabbles.
The drabbles!
The drabbles that range from Steve caring for you during your period, rainy day moments, smut that will melt your brain, soft fluffy moments that will rot your teeth. Just browse through all 20+ drabbles, guarantee there is something you will like.
Alpha Steve Request- Steve and you are playing chase and he catches you. Thigh Riding. NSFW
Alpha Steve- calling the reader Little One
Alpha Steve- Steve trying out some new pet names just to see if any stick.
Alpha Steve Request- Things are piling on all at once and Steve needs stuff taken cared of now. Sam and Bucky are no help with there bickering.
Alpha Steve- Alpha and his Little One spend a quiet evening together. Soft.
Alpha Steve Request- Steve gets actually dirty and you gotta get him in the lake somehow. Short
Here's a couple of excerpts from various chapters:
The moon, not quite full was silhouetted against your form at the end of the dock, outlining all your curved features, you seem to be studying the water, your foot dipping in before you pull it back out. Then to his surprise you arched your back, hands raised over your head and jumped into the water, diving into the darkness out of sight.
<Steve won’t hurt us.> Stated so sincerely and with conviction, you let yourself agree, and settled in the seat, taking in the scenery and Saras talking about how she and Sam met.
Who would have guessed just a simple touch would send Steve spiraling high, he immediately picked up the way your heart sped up and your sweet honeysuckle scent wafted in that intoxicating way that told him to drop his head, taste your lips, lick down your skin till you were saying his name in that breathless manner.
Take a chance on this series but be warned do it on day when you have nothing else planned cause you’ll want to keep reading!
This is another entry for the very wholesome challenge by @donutloverxo. Berry, you deserve the good and the best and beyond.
If I could, I’d honestly review each and every work written by @cherienymphe . She is an impeccable writer, and her writing has such a sublime quality to it that it leaves you wanting for more. She has always inspired me, and her writing has provided solace to me when I needed it.
Pic as used by @cherienymphe for the story
One thing that makes @cherienymphe ‘s dark stories so absolutely amazing to me is that she doesn’t go out and romanticize the dark character. Her story Protect and Serve is such a well written work because it follows a plot that doesn’t go soft. It is a dark story of an obsessed, deranged, and dangerous Steve Rogers, and that’s exactly what he is.
I’m not going to give away much of the story here, but I’ll give you enough reasons to head over there and read it. Let’s start with the reader. Protect and Serve’s reader is a survivor. She’s been through some terrible shit and is trying to build herself up. She is not naïve or innocent in the ways of the world. She realizes pretty early on what’s happening and who to be vary of.
I love it when is reader is not completely helpless. Because she isn’t. She’s smart and has a lot of fight in her. She doesn’t give up; she tries and tries to get out of every situation she is thrust in. Even as the worst is unfolding, you’ll find the reader so admirable because she doesn’t just surrender. The reader is a goddamn badass girl and I love her.
Coming to Steve, he is, for lack of a better word, an utter and complete class asshole. He is depraved, he is manipulative, and he doesn’t let anything stand in his way when it comes to the reader. The limits of his obsession and darkness is crazy, and not for one moment do we feel pity or sympathy for him. In fact, this story is jampacked with assholes, and you’ll love to hate them.
What makes this one of my most favorite reads on here (I’ve re-read this series multiple times now) is that there is a very real touch to it. Men in power have always abused and preyed on the poor and vulnerable, and that’s what is shown here. And it is not glorified, not romanticized. You read this and you feel transformed, because @cherienymphe writes in a way that is absolutely mind bending.
Not only is there a very well-established background and plot, but the characterization is spectacular. Her descriptions of emotions, the raw passion that comes with fear and lust and pain, it is beautifully shown. And I promise you this, if you read this, you’ll have no regrets. You’ll simply click on her Masterlist and read her other beautifully written works, and they deserve all the love and appreciation there is.
summary: having lost your husband, sister, and best friend all to the same extramarital affair, you ran away to a secluded villa in the Hungarian countryside to write and get a little time away from the life you’d left behind. you were only looking for peace and perhaps some inspiration for your novel, but instead you found an unlikely connection with the immigrant repairman-- even though the two of you don’t speak the same language.
warnings: mention/description of infidelity, awkwardness, me teasing y’all by making this a slow burn
@donutloverxo had a wonderful challenge and I'm sorry I couldn't do it for the entire month. It was tough to choose one since it's 12/31, but I'm happy to share this. 💖
Cheating fics are something I typically don't jump right into, but we can be pleasantly surprised what we find when we step outside of our comfort zone. The pill was much easier for me to swallow because the cheating was not between the "main couple". It does hurt that the reader was betrayed in such a way. I have 2 sisters and I adore them. Knowing Sebastian was on the horizon, I strapped in for the ride.
This fic, so far, has been about healing and new experiences. The language barrier between the reader and Sebastian should be an obstacle, but it makes their relationship more endearing. You find yourself rooting for them because they both deserve a piece of happiness. And sometimes we find our light in the darkest of personal times and our strength when we feel like our heart can't take more.
I have no doubt the reader's journey will continue to be one of reflection, growth, strength, happiness and love. I can't wait to see where it leads. 💖
JTH’s 31 Days of Series Review | Day 2 | The Bottom of the Hourglass
So Day 2, this is not a Christmas fic but another fabulous series that I just adore to pieces. The Bottom of the Hourglass by the talented and wonderful @nildespirandum
Summary: Having lost his eternal love - Eve - decades before, Adam has continued his retreat from the world of the human zombies he despises. Then, one night, a woman looking for a different kind of supernatural creature stumbles onto his secret lair.
Pairing: Adam (Only Lovers Left Alive) x OFC (Kay)
Smut, Fluff, Angst
Review: Okay, so this was the series that both simultaneously made me feel completely inadequate to write Adam ever and gave the confidence to do it at the same time. Yes I was that intimidated reading this. The world building is phenomenal. There is a rich backstory lying underneath it. Adam and Kay are fully formed in their own right and are beautifully flawed. The story hits all the rights notes with Adam eternal grumpiness and Kay’s perpetual practicality. They are mismatched so well that it only makes sense they would end of together at some point. The writing is exquisite, the plot is amazing and the smut is divine. It is literally no secret that I am probably one of the biggest fans of this story and this pairing (I am contemplating getting shirts made). I highly recommend reading this main story and the several side stories. Such a delight.
Oh and as a personal weird little headcanony thing. I have always imagine Kay looking like Honey Lemon from Big Hero 6 but shorter and with bigger boobs. And I can’t get it out of my head, so there now I have share!
And thanks to @donutloverxo for doing such a wonderful celebration and celebrating other writers.
This is for @donutloverxo challenge! This is an incredible challenge, thank you for creating it! This is a lovely way to be positive and spread some happiness to others. Thank you again :) I’m a day late but hopefully will catch up!
Flower Garden by wand3ringr0s3 on AO3
This series was one of the first Harry Potter fanfictions I’ve read and absolutely loved it! Please go check it out if you’re interested in Harry Potter fanfiction!
Pairing: Fred Weasley x Reader
Summary on AO3: Hanahaki Disease (花吐き病 (Japanese); 하나하키병 (Korean); 花吐病 (Chinese)): A disease in which the victim coughs up flower petals when they suffer from one-sided love. It ends when the beloved returns their feelings (romantic love only; strong friendship is not enough), or when the victim dies. It can be cured through surgical removal, but when the infection is removed, the victim's romantic feelings for their love also disappear. Crushes are rarely ever dangerous. Until the crush becomes love and your life is on the line if your feelings aren't reciprocated.
Themes: Heavy Angst, Blood mention, Unrequited love, Flower mention
Review under the line. This contains slight spoilers.
Review: My goodness, I cried so hard. Please read this when you want to have some feels for days! This is the type of fiction that you will be thinking about for a long time. It will change your thinking in some sort of way. I finished reading this within a day but couldn’t stop thinking about it.
The author explains the characters in a delicate way, and the disease described in the Reader, almost becomes the entirety of the Reader’s character development throughout the story. As the story progressed, the Reader becomes even more sick, and the author uses this time to describe not only the physical pain of the disease, but the emotional pain of watching the man she’s in love with, Fred, flirt around with others.
George is one of my favorite characters in this fiction because he is the one that could see from every perspective, and through his character, the audience can connect to him through their pain of how the story progresses.
So much angst and sad feelings - I love it. It’s well written, and I think this fiction taught me a part of love I haven’t thought of before.
What I learned through this series: Love can be so young and delicate, that it can be invisible to the one who’s affected by it. It can build up in such a strong force in just a second, that it hits you and throws you on your knees, that you can barely believe it.
This is my review entry for the lovely @donutloverxo as part of Berry’s 3K Challenge. Just sneaking inside the deadline 😬 Congratulations Berry, you deserve all the followers and many, many more 🥰
I am reviewing the most insanely talented @drabblewithfrannybarnes and her first completed Bucky mini series, Cinnamon Sugar Donuts 🍩
Carly’s Masterlist
Cinnamon Sugar Donuts
✨Cinnamon Sugar✨ Donuts • Mini Series
Summary: You’re a busy sleep deprived grad student trying to finish your dissertation. He’s a mysterious man named James that you happened to meet on a late night coffee run. He doesn’t talk much when you first meet him but you’re instantly drawn to his tender vulnerability. Will this donut loving fluffy dork capture your heart?
Warnings: Smut! Explicit Sexual Content, Explicit Language, Dirty Talk (Must be 18+)
Blog Review: Carly is one of the friendliest, most approachable people on here and is so willing to help and support anyone. Whether it is a new writer/ creator or someone more established.
She is super talented, and her writing just gives you all the feels. Carly writes the fluffiest fluff and hottest smut. Her talent and creativity are mind blowing. She never fails to astound me away with her incredible ideas and a writing style that is so easy to read and enjoy.
I first became obsessed with Carly’s writing when I found Bucky’s Firsts, a collection of blurbs about Bucky experiencing a variety of things for the first time. Small, everyday things like his first blanket fort and lazy Sunday. These can be smutty at times but always guaranteed to make you feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Like for real, if you are ever feeling a little bit sad and want to read the equivalent to a big warm hug, then this blurbs is the thing to read. If for some reason, you are not obsessed with Bucky, then there are some based around Steve and also Ransom.
You can’t find more than just Bucky based treats on Carly’s blog. She also writes for Ransom; the man we all want to hate but just can’t because he is one hell of a sexy sweater daddy. There is one of the best dark Steve fics I have ever read in the form of ‘Little Lamb’, which btw still gives me goosebumps. Plus, some extremely hot Andy Barber fics amongst other literary treats.
Series Review: This series focuses on our reader currently writing to finish her dissertation and James, yes, James not Bucky. The whole world knows Bucky as Bucky but to our reader he is just her James, not a hero, not an ex-assassin, just a normal guy who meets a girl and falls in love. A man who is haunted by his past, nervous and shy. Carly forms these characters so well that you cannot help but root for them to succeed as a couple.
Cinnamon Sugar Donuts starts with the most adorable meet cute. Our reader visits a food truck for a caffeine fix and meets a mysterious man who had bought a bag of donuts. This meeting occurs on a regular basis and they form a reserved friendship, well reserved on James’s part. It all culminates in the first chapter with an exchange of numbers and an unexpected trip back to the readers apartment to patch up James, who has injured himself on a mission. James finally lets his guard down and steals his first kiss from the reader.
James is so reserved at times that the reader thinks that he doesn’t like her. But they are just so soft and sweet together. James wants to take things slow, but our reader has other ideas (and who can blame her). After a facetime mishap we are treated to their wonderful first date where we can see the two of them falling in love with each. Whenever I hear that Elvis song now, I can’t help but cry, imagining these two slow dancing together.
Of course, as with any relationships, there are ups and down. At one point you’re not sure if they are going to make it or not. Enter Steve, the unsung hero of the tale. After one fateful night where our reader reunites with James, we are treated to a glimpse of what their sweet relationship could be like. The final chapter is sheer perfection, the first time James finally allows himself that ultimate intimate moment he has held back for so long.
I do not say this lightly when I reveal that this is my favourite series. I am such a sucker for Bucky fluff, and this is just the ultimate. This story is one that I could read endlessly. The character of James is written in such a way that you cannot help but fall in love with him. He is so different to other portrayals of Bucky in many ways due to his apparent lack of self-confidence and shyness. This unique characterisation allows you to empathise with him and that is what makes him so brilliantly written. In fact, the whole story make you feel all the emotions of both of the characters, the ups, the downs. Everything. All of that must be attributed to its’ brilliant author, Carly.
