Marco had to think about it for a few days. It was pretty shocking information; one of his friends was the colossal titan. The big one that broke the wall twice and was connected to so many deaths. With that said, he was forced. Marco didn’t know exactly what was done - or continuously still being done - to control someone so completely, but the way the other spoke of it, it must have been or must be, horrific.
It wasn’t that hard for him to believe though, he himself had differences due to someone being around him in his childhood. Those memories were now mostly with his split personality; Marco hardly was able to remember the event but his other personality remembered it in detail.
Keeping himself busy with physical therapy and trying to help anyone in whatever way he could, Marco hardly saw Bertholdt at all for those next few days. He needed time to think and he may have been avoiding the other so that his thoughts were not influenced by anything. Being around the taller would have made Marco want to forgive him straight away just from fun memories during training. He also avoided all conversations that spoke negatively of the titan shifters. No, Marco wanted to decide how he was going to react to this without anything making him want to think one way or another.
Marco’s legs would never be the same so he focused on his arms. Training helped focus his thoughts so while he mulled over what Bertl had told him, he set up an area to do a few pull ups. At least his arms were still fully functional. Keeping in whatever shape he could kept him sane.
The days passed and Marco varied from keeping to himself to quietly working in the secretary-esque position he was put in to still be able to help, even if just by organizing notes, paperwork, and Hanji’s research. While doing these tasks Marco kept going over mentally what Bertholdt said.
After mental debates with himself, Marco finally settled on that he still wanted to call Bertholdt a friend, BUT he would want to know the full story. He didn’t want to hate someone he once called a friend. They wouldn’t be as close as they were, but he didn’t want to hate the other. He found it hard to hate Annie for what she did, but he didn’t know the motives. The way Bertholdt mentioned that there were others involved, Marco figured she must have been one of the others. Another person forced into this.
Marco briefly wondered if the titan shifter who was the full reason he was in the wheelchair was part of it as well. If anything he should find it harder to not trust that one as he actually grew up around her but it was her motives that made it hard. By which she had none, she only seemed interested in harming the freckled boy specifically. That was harder to move past.
Deciding he could re-join the others once more now that his mind was made up, Marco looked around for Bertholdt. He wanted to tell him his decision on what was told a few days ago. Bertholdt wasn’t that easy to find, odd for such a tall guy, but he was surprisingly skilled at being hard to find. Once Marco did see him though, he called out, while waving a hand for the other to come over to him.
