ꨄ︎: casual sex was thrown out the window when yoongi caught feelings, hard. Maybe the harsh rain and two broken hearts can change your mind.
You’re perfect for him. Your lips mold against his so sweetly, teeth nibble his lip ~leaving him breathless. Would you hate him for breaking your number one rule, falling in love. Is it a crime? A crime he’s willing to commit just to see your pretty smile, just to feel your small hand cup his face so sweetly.
Casual right? No strings attached? Rules were thrown out the window the moment your bodies met. The red string slithered in your arms once your fingers locked. He swears he can feel the red string, feeling it cup your breast tying little bows on your heart. Fuck. His loving heart consumes you whole. He quickly shakes the thoughts away, basking in your presence.
The flash of his camera caught your attention “yoongi, my hair is a mess” you whine as he smiled at the photo. “You look beautiful to me” you smile as he caresses your cheek, his eyes admire the pretty sight in front of him. Watching your fingers touch the soft carpet under your feet, wearing just his shirt and your pretty panties. He can get used to this, only if you’re willing to.
You notice Yoongi's hands fidget nervously, eyes staring into the wall. His heart flutters as you pull his hand on your lap, instantly soothing his racing mind. “What’s wrong?” Yoongi quickly shakes his head “I’m fine” , his response leaving you with more questions. “something is bothering you” his sigh fills the room, “I like you” your smile slowly fades, yoongi feels your hands stop. Is it a crime to want you?
“Yoongi, I’m not ready” he nods, pulling his hand away “I know” your heart breaks as the room falls silent. Yoongi wished you would listen to his longing heart, needing you to feel it, yearning for your love. “I-I don’t know how to feel” neither does he, he can’t help but laugh. “this was so stupid, I’m sorry” he instantly gets up, he turns his back from you, “don’t leave” you try to lift your hand to grab him but it falls on your lap like dead weight. “___ unless you feel the same way I can’t stay and keep faking like this is nothing” he watches as your mouth opens but quickly shuts “thought so” without another word he leaves you. Alone once again.
Everything has been dead silent since that day, days drag with you on his mind. He lays on his bed staring at your contact, fighting the urge to beg for you. Willing to live in your false reality just to have you again. He hates how willing his heart is, willing to live in your lie.
His friends notice the quick change in his demeanor, noticing the bags under his eyes and blank stares -lost in his thoughts. He feels pity for himself, pathetic even.
“Yoongi?” His light flickers once he listens to your sweet voice, God he misses you. The sudden rush of excitement knocks him down to his feet, shivering as his wet clothes cling to his cold, shaking body.
“You’re shivering” you stare at his red eyes, he wonders if you can see his broken heart. “Take this off” he walked in the pouring rain for you, “I’m sorry” he watched your eyes water as you wrapped a warm blanket around him. “It’s not your fault” you fall in his welcoming arms, instantly warming his cold skin. “I didn't mean to hurt you, I’m sorry” you hug him tightly, letting your warm tears spill down his chest.
“Shh, it’s okay” he lets you cry silently against his chest, rubbing his hand down your back. “I’m ready” his heart skipped a beat as you pull back “teach me” he nods as you cup his cheek. His hand rests on your hips, closing his eyes once your lips touch his “Teach me how to love you”.
These are some sick headcannons I have of the tannies and I have so many other ideas for lists like these (i.e members as caretakers, best to worst patient, etc.) so here it goes <3
Seokjin
Pushes himself even though he’s overdoing it
Makes light jokes and wouldn’t admit how much pain he’s actually in
The type to cough obnoxiously like an ipad kid if he’s at a stage where it’s not that serious of a cold (only to annoy Jk lol)
If it is that serious, his coughs would be really congested and would take a lot out of him to the point of him getting dizzy
His face flushes when he gets fevers and also sweats a lot
Gets seasonal allergies
His body gets really sluggish and his muscles tighten/get sore.
Would silently approach another member and would cuddle them while they sleep so he could feel comfort without asking for it
Yoongi
Everyone knows he’s getting sick when he starts to seek out physical affection
Makes the weirdest and strangest concoctions that actually works yet he also thinks a 5 star energy drink is a replacement for actual medicine (spoiler alert: it isn’t)
Gets a really runny nose when he’s sick
The cutest and tiniest sneezes that rivals Jimin’s
If it’s really bad, he becomes super clingy
Sometimes it takes other people acknowledging it for him to realize or notice he’s sick; if he’s delirious with a high fever it could be like (“Yoongi, you’re sick” “Huh. I think you’re right”)
You know that meme of Bernie Sanders sitting on the chair with his hands folded, yeah that’s Yoongi
Hoseok
Get’s SUPER red when he has a fever
As soon as his cheeks turn red, it's the first sign that he’s sick
Would get super congested as well
The cleanest member in terms of making sure he wears a mask and cleans up his tissues to ensure no one gets sick because of him
Get’s really quiet and solemn when he’s feeling under the weather
Often gets swarmed by the maknae line and keeps a spray bottle on hand to shoo them away so they don’t get sick
Slurs his words when he's really out of it
He’s really good at taking care of himself and knows what his body needs, so him getting sick is a rarity.
Hates the taste of medicine, keep that shit far away from him, why would you even forsake him like that–
Namjoon
Feels really guilty and gets apologetic when he’s sick
Tries to push through but his body will give up on him no matter how stubborn his mind is
Gets really bad stress induced migraines
Has the second loudest sneezes (cause we all know who is the first)
He’s the most vocal when it comes to feeling bad, but not in a whiny way but more in a “My head is thundering to the storm in my heart and it's shooting lightening across my body akin to the feeling of shock..."
Yapper galore
No seriously, if you thought this man could talk before, delirious!Namjoon with a fever that rivals Venus is borderline insane
Gets weirdly attached to soups, or any hot food for that matter, no matter his temperature
Jimin
You know what they say, the baddest bitches have the worst stomachs and Jimin is the baddest bitch of them all
Would stay curled up in a ball and wouldn’t move from his bed for days until the sickness is gone
Is known to push himself past the point of exhaustion
Prone to fainting when the fever gets too high
The cutest sneezes in the world
Whines to anyone close to him about how bad he’s feeling, and whines to himself if no one is there
Is very honest, perhaps too honest about everything happening to him when he’s sick
Self diagnose king ("hey google, is it normal for -insert the most outrageous thing here--)
Is prone to adrenaline boosts before his body shuts down (i.e doing five performances in a row then collapsing backstage)
Taehyung
Would whine when it’s the smallest inconvenience imaginable but when he gets quiet, that’s when you know he’s sick
His voice is also a giveaway, he sounds really congested and often loses his voice if it’s bad enough
Has a lot of food sensitivities, the others thought he was being dramatic about being picky with his food until it was like, yeah no, you’re body actually rejects that
Fevers causes him to get rashes
Naturally he runs hot so fever!Tae is a furnace
His nose gets really red when he’s sick
Would try to hide the fact that he’s ill but fails every time because he just looks absolutely miserable
Gets super sleepy and would pass out anywhere
If you thought he was a deep sleeper before, sick Taehyung is borderline catatonic
His sneezes get quieter the more ill he is.
Uses his hands for everything but covering his mouth when he coughs or sneezes, someone save Hobi
He needs someone to take care of him, not because he wants them to but because he needs them to (he doesn’t get sick often so when it does, it triples in intensity and would last awhile)
Jungkook
Probably the most stubborn of them all
His nose causes him the most problems, even when he’s feeling fine
He used to get sick the most when he was younger because he would push himself all the time and refused to listen to his body when it demanded a break
Gets very emotional when he’s not feeling well, making the congestion worse
He gets very sensitive to his surroundings; loud noises, bright lights, etc gets amplified and he would rather be in a dark, quiet room.
Loves being taken care of, but he would never admit it
Snores like a jet engine
He’s usually an easy sleeper but under the weather Jungkook is an insomniac
He needs his comfort foods, even though some would leave him feeling worse later on
Whimpers and groans more than actually talking about his pain
A/N: wrote this in about 30 minutes lol but I can’t stop looking at that cutie jikook picture 🤭
Jungkook doesn’t waste any time getting comfortable on the plane. He’s sleepy, and almost sad about the fact that the flight is only two and a half hours long. He could use a much, much longer nap, but he’ll settle for two and a half hours.
There’s a heavy weight to his limbs that makes him feel like he’s glued to the chair. Jungkook had reclined it as soon as the plane took off, but now he’s just kind of stuck like that, staring up at the plane’s ceiling as he starts to drift off to sleep, but not quite fully there yet. He’s never actually regretted staying up too late before, but this might be the closest he’s come to that– he’s too tired to even reach for his phone, which means he can't turn on his music, and that’s kind of a bummer.
As he reaches a state of almost-slumber, someone crawls into his lap.
Jimin.
Jungkook can recognize his scent and his weight, even in a state of partial consciousness.
Jimin is quiet. And warm. Too warm, Jungkook decides as Jimin lies down on top of him, face nuzzling into the crook of Jungkook’s neck.
But still, Jungkook isn’t going to move. Nor can he. He’s too heavy, and now Jimin is a heavy, warm weight on top of him.
Somewhere nearby, he can hear Hoseok’s cooing voice: Look at those two, I have to take a picture!
Jungkook is too sleepy to comprehend what Hoseok is talking about.
At least Jimin smells nice. It’s the last thing Jungkook is aware of as he finally falls asleep.
*
“...we’re going to land soon.”
Jungkook blinks awake to the sound of Seokjin’s voice. “Huh?”
“Jungkookie? You awake? We’re going to land soon.”
Sniffling, Jungkook tries to make his eyes focus on Seokjin’s face. He’s hot all over, thanks to Jimn’s body covering every inch of him. It’s comfortable, but in a too-hot sort of way.
“Too hot,” he croaks out, knowing Seokjin will understand.
Seokjin does not understand. “We’re going to land soon, Jungkookie,” he repeats, carding his fingers through Jungkook’s hair. “You guys need to sit upright.”
Raising an eyebrow, Seokjin tilts his head to one side. “What?”
“Jimin-hyung is…too hot.”
Jungkook isn’t sure why his tongue feels too big in his mouth. He needs water, probably, and about ten more hours of sleep.
“Jimin is too hot?” Seokjin echoes, moving his hands down to Jimin’s face. When his palm slides across Jimin’s forehead, he freezes. “Oh.”
Jungkook sniffles. In the next breath, he feels a sneeze sneak up on him, and turns his head to the side to let it out.
“Oh,” Seokjin says.
“Bless you,” Hoseok calls out from his seat.
Jimin, startled awake by Jungkook’s sneeze, groans softly and sits up halfway. “Kookie?”
“Hey.” Seokjin crouches down and takes Jimin’s flushed face in his hands. “You’re awake.” He speaks softly, even though they’re all awake now. “How are you feeling?”
At first, Jimin seems to hear him, but then his brows furrow and he tries to lie back down, face seeking out the crook of Jungkook’s neck again.
“Ohh, nope.” Seokjin stops him with a hand on his shoulder. “It’s time to get up. You need to sit in your own chair for landing.”
Jimin groans again.
Seokjin clears his throat. “Joon-ah?”
Namjoon is at his side in an instant. “What’s wrong?”
“I think these two decided to get sick on us,” Seokjin chuckles, like he’s telling Namjoon a funny story instead of bad news.
At that, Jimin’s head lifts up. “Wha’?”
“I think you’re running a fever, Jimi–”
“Kookie is sick?” Jimin asks, turning to look at Jungkook’s face.
“Oh, for goodness’ sake,” Seokjin sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Namjoon, I think we’re going to need med check-ups for them both after we land. They’re both really warm and Jungkook is–”
Jungkook sneezes, this time into Jimin’s chest.
There’s a moment of silence. Jungkook breaks it by sniffling wetly into Jimin’s shirt.
“That. Jungkook is doing that,” Seokjin finishes. “If you could just inform the staff, I’ll get them ready for landing.”
Namjoon nods, silent as he walks toward the front of the plane.
Seokjin tugs on Jimin’s shoulder until he sits up. “Come on, Jiminie. You need to sit down in your seat and buckle up. We’re going to be landing soon.”
At Jimin’s hesitation, Seokjin tries another tactic.
“Will you help Jungkook sit up and make sure he’s buckled in?”
Finally, Jimin springs into action– albeit clumsy, stumbling action, weighted down by fever and exhaustion as he uses an extremely hands-on approach to get Jungkook’s seat upright. Seokjin isn’t sure if Jimin is clinging so much to Jungkook because he’s not feeling well, or if it’s because he now knows Jungkook isn’t feeling well, but either way it's a struggle to separate them and get Jimin back in his own seat.
Once he’s there, Seokjin hands him a bottle of water. He brings one to Jungkook, too, uncapping it for him so he can drink.
“Hyung.”
Seokjin turns around. Yoongi is watching him from across the plane.
“Time to buckle in for landing,” Yoongi tells him.
Seokjin smiles. He takes his seat next to Yoongi and buckles his seatbelt. “They both have fevers, I think.”
Frowning, Yoongi looks at Jimin, then at Jungkook. “Well, that sucks. Do they need medicine? I have–”
“A whole pharmacy in your carry-on,” Seokjin finishes for him, reaching over to pat Yoongi’s thigh. “We can figure that out after we land.”
hi, if you are taking any requests could you write one where Taehyung is sick during the album preparation and can't show up in the studio, in LA ? And others are worried and take care of him??
Caretaker ot7
Also the part where he couldn't attend meeting due to feeling unwell in the docu woahh
Anon, I was trying! I've been fighting the demons (the fancams on tiktok) and kept forgetting to continue to write. It's a liiiittle rushed but I hope it's okay!!
The sneeze echoes from the little Los Angeles living room, followed by a thud of the coffee table. Jimin, who’d entered the room with two mugs of tea, pauses in the doorway.
“Tae-yah?” he calls, a grimacing smile on his face. “Did you hit the table?”
He sees Taehyung, rosy-nosed and grimacing, rubbing his knee as he shifts back on the couch. Honestly, he looks pale and -tired, and Jimin’s sure he’s sick, but he’s letting Taehyung work through his denial first. “Yeah…” Taehyung grumbles, sinking back.
Jimin sets both cups on the table, one sweetened tea in front of his fellow 95-liner, the lighter tea in front of him. “Here. Drink some tea. Might help your throat.”
Taehyung sighs, but instead of reaching for his tea, he leans over and drops his head against Jimin’s lap, eyes closing. Jimin laughs and reaches down to scratch his scalp, smiling as he watches his friend melt at the touch.
It doesn’t take long for Jin to come in, brows furrowed. “Is he catching something?” he asks softly.
As Jimin nods, there’s a soft, gruff voice that answers: “Nuh-uh.”
It gets Jimin to laugh, but he leans down to look at Taehyung’s face, his fingers shifting to brush against his forehead. “You’re not feverish, but you definitely have a cold or something.”
Jin frowns. “Symptoms? I heard the sneeze. Coughing? Sore throat? Dizzy?” He squats next to them in front of the couch, reaching over to touch Taehyung’s forehead himself. True as stated, he wasn’t warm, merely… sniffly.
Taehyung sucks in one wet, loud sniffle. “S’dot,” he answers softly.
“Hmm… I’m sure we’ve got some sinus meds somewhere, but maybe drink the tea Jimin-ah made, okay?”
“In a minute,” he grumbles a soft response. He shifts his head up, bumping Jimin’s hand; Jimin grins and gets back to scratching his scalp. “Comfy…”
“Don’t sit there for too long,” Jin warns anyway. He stands back up, glancing towards the window as he ponders for a moment. “We don’t actually have any medication here. But there’s uh… Wall… Wall-something is here. It has drugs.”
That gets both Jimin and Taehyung to laugh.
“YAH! I didn’t mean that!” But he grins, play-kicking at them both. “We’ll go pick something up. HOB-AAAAAH!” Jin disappears around the corner, and soon Hoseok, mouth full of some sweet pastry, grunts and shuffles after him.
As the noise fades, Jimin leans over to pat his friend’s shoulder. “Okay, up you get. Drink some tea now before Jin gets mad at both of us.”

The nyquil definitely helped, but it had a very adverse effect of what they had been asking for. The group had gathered in the house’s little den area, where Namjoon had set up a mini studio layout for practicing and writing on the little table in the room. Scattered around were various couches and seats, and Taehyung, who had claimed a comfy armchair early in, had definitely fallen asleep.
Namjoon, a little surprised, looked at Jin and Hoseok. “What did you guys give him? We’re loud as hell and he’s not even rolling around.”
Jin brings the bottle over to Namjoon, shrugging a little. “It seems like it’s best for treating… whatever he’s got,” he said. “We tried to translate it, but the ingredients were like Pancold.”
Reading the front label for a second, Namjoon sighs. They should’ve brought one of their more English-proficient guards with them. Or better yet, he should’ve gone with them instead of holing up in the makeshift studio den. They weren’t wrong, not at all, but Namjoon knew this medication well. He’d taken it for a few days a few years ago when he’d gotten sick overseas.
“No wonder,” he grumbles. “This makes everyone drowsy.”
Taehyung lets out a rather impressive snore. They glance over at him, then at Jungkook who’s taken to balancing throw pillows on his crossed arms. So far, he’s got four, and one held up between the stack and Taehyung’s head.
Namjoon sighs. “Let’s just call it for today.”
“Yeah… We should just order dinner. Should we get something with soup for Tae-Tae?” Hoseok asks, watching Jungkook intensely as the maknae tries to balance the fifth pillow. Taehyung sniffles, mouth moving for a few seconds, and then he lets out another deep, wet snore. “You know… I’m kind of impressed.”
“Honestly? Me too.”
The seventh pillow finally wakes Taehyung up, but he’s so groggy from the medication that all he does is shift to the couch, where Yoongi’s been testing beats on his phone, and curls up at his side.
“Okay, Tae-Tang-ie,” Yoongi says with a laugh, referring to his cat.
Taehyung lets out a silly little “Meow” sound before he falls asleep right on his hyung.
~*~
“Maybe we should get him more soup,” Jin muses from one of the SUVs they’ve rented. They had a meeting earlier with some of the production staff, but Taehyung’s fever had begun to spike and he opted to stay in the house and just call in. Surprisingly, he was quite attentive during the meeting, despite Jin pushing meds into him before they left, but he received that sleeping emoji text the moment it was over.
But he knows the rest of the boys aren’t all in the mood for just a brothy soup. Thankfully, Jimin seems to be on the same page, scrolling around on his phone from the passenger seat. “What about chicken, hyung? Fried chicken, some good starchy sides.”
“Yah! And my cheeks will be puffy for days!” Jin complains.
“They’re already puffy.” Jimin’s small finger comes to poke his cheek, and Jin frees one hand from the steering wheel to swat at him. “Let’s just do a chimaek night! Tae-yah can still just crash with us. We had a really productive meeting, and we get a few more days to just plan and fiddle. And we can just let Hobi-hyung do all the fiddling since he’s not listening anyway.”
“Eh?”
That gets their dance leader from the backseat to look up from his phone. “I heard my name, what?”
“Noooooothing, hyung!” Jimin says with a grin. “I’m gonna call Joonie, I bet he wants to participate.”
Hoseok knows it’s useless to ask Jimin for more details, especially since Jimin calls Namjoon’s phone immediately after and puts it on speaker.
“Ya! Jimin-ah! Did you forget something at the office?”
Jimin laughs. “Nooo, I had an idea! Chimaek? We get some jjigae for Tae-yah, and enough sides and snacks to put us in nap-mode?”
“Chiiiimaaaaek!” Namjoon screams into the phone, followed by Jungkook singing it aloud from the background. “Let’s do it! Movie night and we can do karaoke or whatever.”
Jin just laughs. “Every time we get together, it turns into karaoke or whatever.”
“Because we’re noisy,” Hoseok supplied hopefully. “Good thing Taehyungie can sleep through a hurricane. We’re gonna get noisy.”
“We can just give him nyquil again,” Jimin snickers. “He’s not gonna care.”
~*~
And honestly, Taehyung was grateful. He’s back in the living room, a throw blanket wrapped around his shoulders, tucked into Yoongi’s side on one of the couches while Jin feeds him. He’s not that sick, not really, but given it’s an annoying enough bug that he hasn’t been able to shake, he decides to milk it for his comfort.
He is their baby, after all. (Jungkook doesn’t count.)
Yoongi doesn’t complain about being a human pillow, merely reaching over to adjust the blanket across his lap if it moves, and Taehyung feels absolutely loved. He’s in Namjoon’s warmest hoodie and a pair of fuzzy socks Hobi bought him earlier from the convenience store. The blankets were pre-warmed from the dryer, courtesy of Jungkook. And the soup is honestly delicious. Jimin also promised him head scratches when he’s done eating.
He opens his mouth, letting Jin feed him another spoonful.
“Aish, you’re too big for this!” Jin mutters, splitting a piece of tofu with the spoon. He’s complained every time Taehyung looks smug, but Taehyung knows he’s glad he’s finally stopped coughing for a while. And honestly, whatever cough suppressant the doctor had prescribed him felt like a lifesaver; he hasn’t coughed in the better part of an hour.
“Hyung?” Taehyung asks Jin softly. “Tea?”
Jin doesn’t even complain, merely picks up the glass with a bendy straw inside and holds it up for Taehyung to take a sip. After all, staying hydrated is key.
Taehyung scoots back when he heard Hoseok laugh, watching as the older rapper falls off the couch. Jimin, giggling with Jungkook, kick at Namjoon as he grins back. They’re silly, as always, and loud, and fussy, and a lot, but honestly? Taehyung hasn’t been this happy in a long while here, even with a pesky cold.
And if he sneaks a beer later just because he wanted one, still wrapped up with the throw towel around his head, he knows Yoongi doesn’t rat him out about adding alcohol to the medication cocktail he’s been on. He even opens it for him, and another for himself. Taehyung knows he’s spoiled, and he’s glad that even after their time apart, they’re still as close as ever.
Both of them, sitting on the patio outside, freeze when they hear Jin stomping down the stairs. Yoongi snatches Taehyung’s beer and hides them both behind his legs, just as their oldest opens the back door.
“Tae-yah?” Jin calls softly. “Did you take your last dose for the night?”
He’s been on it for medication detail. Taehyung looks at Yoongi, who waves off his hyung easily. “I’ll get it for him when we go back inside. The fresh air’s good for him.”
Taehyung gives Jin his biggest boxy smile, nodding. “Yoongi-hyung’s got me.”
Yoongi merely nods. “We’ll be back in soon.”
“Okay. Don’t stay out here too late, it’s chilly.” And with that, Jin heads inside again.
Yoongi sighs, handing Taehyung his beer back before grabbing his own. “We were only getting fresh air. Nobody else needs to know.”
“Know what? Fresh air’s good for me.” And with that, they both laugh and take a sip. They take their time finishing their drinks, looking up at the stars while Yoongi tells Taehyung all sorts of random facts he knows from the constellations they can see with the porch light off. But once the junebugs begin to float around, the two retreat indoors. It’s late, somewhere closer to two or three in the morning, but they’d never been one for proper sleep schedules. Occupational hazard of idol work, Yoongi figures. He and Taehyung share a sink to brush their teeth, and Taehyung whines enough that Yoongi actually applies his moisturizer for him before giving him his dose and water.
“C’mon, Tae-yah. Bedtime for you.”
Jimin finds them both in Yoongi’s bed the next morning, Taehyung tucked under Yoongi’s arm like a babe needing protection, and it’s the best sleep both of them have that entire trip. Jimin merely closes the door and lets them sleep in a little longer, hoping that maybe the shared body heat will do Taehyung some good.
Note: @sickonthedancefloor I hope I did you prompt justice, friend!!!
“Hey! Look who it is!” Taehyung exclaimed, arms thrown out in welcome as the door closed behind Hoseok. The dancer paused, holding up a peace sign before shuffling to the front of the room. “Look who finally decided to show up!”
“Ha ha, so funny.” Hoseok rolled his eyes over dramatically, his statement punctuated by a sharp sniffle that had Seokjin practically shoving him into the folding chair at the front of the practice room. “Hyung, I know what I agreed to!”
Jin’s eyes alone spoke volumes. “One incident today, Hobi, JUST ONE!” He held up a finger for emphasis, “and I’m sending you back home.”
“Relax, hyung.” Namjoon clapped Jin on the shoulder with a raise of his eye brows. “Hoseok-ah’s an adult. He knows his limits.” The leader’s eyes flicked warningly towards the dancer. “Right?”
Hoseok shot them both an enthusiastic, two-handed thumbs up. “Right-o! Cough’s been gone for about 24 hours, so I am cleared to return to work.” Another sniffle punctuated his statement. “I am still a little stuffed up, but it’s out of my lungs, and that was the deal.”
Seokjin narrowed his eyes at Namjoon, as the leader had agreed to the deal that Hoseok could return to work as soon as his cough settled. It was, after all, just a cold, albeit the scary kind that settled in his chest. Clearly, though, Hoseok hadn’t developed bronchitis (or, don’t even think it, pneumonia,) so the leader really couldn’t move the goal post now.
Namjoon nodded. “That was the deal. As was you taking it easy today. Thus,” he gestured down, “the chair.”
“I know, I know.” Hoseok waved away the leader’s concern. “So go stretch. My eyes’ll be sharper today since I can’t participate fully.” The smile behind his mask was overly sweet, and both Seokjin and Namjoon could sense it, immediately groaning and returning to the dance floor. Hoseok chuckled to himself, rubbing at his neck. While his throat no longer felt sore, a persistent pain was beginning to bug him, crawling from his neck up the right side of his head to his ear. Hoseok sighed; it was probably from all the laying down he’d been doing. Sure, he didn’t have anything more than a stupid cold, but it had knocked him out harder than he’d expected. He’d even spiked a fever three days ago. He’d finally turned the corner two nights ago, the ache in his chest finally easing from rest and medicine. Yet the fact that he was still uncomfortably stuffed up despite the congestion finally loosening its hold on his lungs? Criminal.
Pulling his water bottle and a box of tissues from his bag and setting it decisively next to his chair, Hoseok’s eyes scanned his members, all in various stage of stretching. It was SO GOOD to be back, to be able to participate, even in a small way. When he called the member together to start running through choreography, he was J-Hope the dance captain once again, all focus and precision. Sure, he winced a few times from the pain crawling up his neck. Sure, he had to pause a few times to ward off the occasional sneeze. But Hoseok was back in his element, and his members were on top of the world having their choreography virtuoso back in action.
Everything came crashing down an hour before their lunch break. The group moved to a newer song, a dance that hadn’t fully settled into their muscle memory yet. So far, Hoseok had been able to teach from his chair, watching their run throughs and providing verbal feedback with minor hand gestures. But the group was getting worked up. Something about this track… even Jimin and Jungkoook were struggling.
“Okay.” Hoseok held up his hands and vaulted to his feet. The movement caused a sharper pain in his ear then Hoseok expected, and he stumbled slightly. Six pairs of hands raised, as if nervous he would somehow faint immediately. “I’m fine. Just moved a little too fast.” While every member’s posture relaxed, their eyes did not. Hoseok did his best to ignore that.
“Sit down, hyung. We can figure it out,” Jungkook insisted, sincere and helpful.
“It’s okay, Kook, I can walk you through a few moves. I won’t go at tempo, promise.” Hoseok crossed his thumb over his heart, watching the older members out of his periphery. “The movement goes 5, 6, 7…” He began to slowly walk through the steps, breaking it down, hoping to provide clarity where it was needed. And he was highly successful… until the turn. The turn involved a level change - there was a plié and head tilt and, when he did so, Hoseok’s vision tilted. He stumbled again, blinking rapidly to clear the sudden stars swimming before his eyes.
Steady hands caught his shoulders. “Hoseok, sit.” Yoongi.
“I’m f-fine…” Hoseok attempted to shake his head, but the movement caused another burst of pain and he cried out, holding the right side of his head as he fell onto one knee.
“HYUNG!” The cry echoed around him, but Hoseok couldn’t identify the voice as the volume sent yet another shockwave through his body. What was happening? This hadn’t happened at all since he’d been sick. As the confusion swelled within him, Hoseok felt his heart beat start to race and the room around him began to spin faster and faster.
“Hoseok?” Yoongi’s voice, deep and soft, right next to his left ear. Warm hands still holding Hoseok like his life depended on it. “What’s wrong, love?”
“I…” Hoseok swallowed thickly, suddenly nauseous. “Dizzy…” he breathed.
“Jimin, go grab ice, please,” a voice directed from somewhere above Hoseok’s head. “Kook, go with him.”
Hoseok squeezed his eyes shut, willing the spinning to stop. It didn’t. Neither did the screaming pain in his ear.
“Jung Hoseok!” A hand against his cheek startled the dancer’s eyes open. He met Seokjin’s worried gaze. “Hobi, can you hear me?”
“Huh?” Hoseok gasped breathlessly.
“I’ve said your name three times,” Seokjin said gently, his thumb working caressing the rapper’s cheek. “You responded to Yoongi right away, but not me. You don’t seem to have a fever, you’re suddenly dizzy, you…”
“Are pulling on your ear,” Taehyung interrupted.
“Wha-?” Hoseok didn’t even realize he was doing exactly that until Yoongi grabbed his hand, folding it into his own. “I don’t…”
“Seok-ah, you’re pulling on the ear where Jinnie was,” Taehyung said, eyebrows creased in worry. “Isn’t that… a clear sign of an ear infection?”
Seokjin sat back on his heels, eyebrows furrowing. “Since when are you knowledgeable about that?”
Taehyung shrugged. “I have two younger siblings. When someone pulls on their ear, that usually means ear infection.”
“But I…” Hoseok paused, the world only starting to come back into focus. He sniffled harshly, suddenly aware of his symptoms again. “When was I…?”
“Just now,” Yoongi answered before he could finish. “You lost your balance, then grabbed for your ear. And Jin’s right, you didn’t seem to hear him at all, but heard me just fine. That sounds like infection, Hoba…”
“But… how?” Hoseok asked, meeting his eldest hyung’s gaze.
Seokjin shrugged. “A lot of ways. Probably your cold moving from your chest up to your head.”
“Yeah, all that snot’s gotta go somewhere,” Taehyung joked.
“That’s… so rude.”
Taehyung’s face fell. “No, hyung, I didn’t mean…”
“Oh, no, not you, Tae!” Hoseok shook his head, immediately regretting it at the shoot of pain through his ear. After he winced thoroughly, he forced his eyes up to the younger man, squinting against the light. “I mean rude of my body to do that. Your joke was, unfortunately, spot on.”
“Hey, Kookie, can you turn off the first light switch?” Namjoon asked suddenly, his eyes focused beyond the small group. Hoseok assume the ice brigade has returned. “I think the full fluorescents are hurting our dear choreographer.”
“It’s okay, I…”
“Stop.” Yoongi pressed a finger to where he assumed Hoseok’s lips where beneath his mask (he was mostly right.) “You’re allowed to be in pain. Just accept it. And sit back in your chair until we can you to a doctor.”
“So dramatic,” Hoseok muttered as Jimin pressed an ice pack into his hand, which the dancer immediately pressed against his throbbing right ear. “It’s just a cold… and maybe an ear infection.”
“Jeez, hyung, we leave for two seconds and you get sick AGAIN?!” Jungkook exclaimed, shaking his head. “I’m starting to feel left out.”
“Oh trust me, this is something you want to be left out of,” Hoseok replied as Yoongi and Seokjin lifted him from the floor and back to his chair. Did he need the help? No. Was he going to hate the coddling that was sure to come with this new illness development? Yes. But did he love it anyway? 1000 percent.
There were two reasons for this: One, their sunshine member had fallen sick recently, taken down by a nasty bout of the flu.
And two, the other members were trying their hardest to keep as quiet as possible so as not to disturb him, especially when he’d finally fallen into a semi-restful doze on the living room sofa.
It was hilarious, and kind of sweet in some ways, to see Jungkook trip over a table leg, and Jimin and Taehyung immediately leap on top of him to stifle his yelp with their hands slapped over his mouth. Teary-eyed, Jungkook glances at Hoseok, still fast asleep on the sofa, and nods contritely. The other two maknaes remove their palms with a quiet sigh of relief. Then, giggling quietly, they haul Jungkook up, dragging him away to play video games in Jimin’s room.
While the rare silence would usually be appreciated, Yoongi finds the current quiet a little too unnerving. No one had the heart to wake Hoseok up to move him to his room after he'd fallen asleep, and Yoongi had volunteered to be the first to stay and watch over him.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When the sound of Hoseok's harsh coughs pierce the quiet like a gunshot later that afternoon, Yoongi was up in an instant, making his way over to the sofa.
Hoseok was a pitiful sight - the effort from coughing had left him flushed and teary, curled in on himself in an effort to quell the coughs.
“You alright, baby?” Yoongi asks softly. “Are you feeling well enough to make it back to your room?”
Hoseok shakes his head. “Don’t think I can even move.” He answers hoarsely, sounding utterly miserable. Even speaking seems like too much effort for him, as he curls back into himself to cough again. When he’s done, Hoseok splays out listlessly back against the sofa cushions, looking spent. Yoongi's heart aches.
He grabs a bottle of water from the living room table and cracks it open. “Okay, okay. We’ll stay here then.” He nudges Hoseok’s knee with his. “Scoot over.”
Easing himself behind Hoseok, Yoongi allows the younger rapper to lean back against him, and holds the bottle up to his lips as Hoseok drinks gratefully.
“Better?”
“Better.” Hoseok’s body weight falls even more heavily against him, his voice already growing quieter with sleepiness. “I feel less like I need to cough like this - thanks, hyung.”
“Then we’ll just sleep like this.” Yoongi says, using a hand to idly brush against Hoseok’s bangs, damp with sweat.
A long pause passes, in which Yoongi thinks Hoseok has already fallen back asleep. Then Hoseok speaks, quiet and slurred, “I might… get you sick too, hyung.”
Yoongi snorts. “That ship will definitely sail, whether you like it or not. Now shut up and go to sleep.”
Hoseok smiles tiredly, eyes slipping closed with a quiet hum. “Alright, alright… Whatever you say, hyung.”
“I’m gonna kick down this fuckin’ door, Jeon Jungkook, I swear to–”
Said door clicks mid-sentence, the sound of someone unlocking the deadbolt. Slowly, the knob turns, and then Jungkook is opening the door, blinking down at Yoongi through the crack.
Yoongi’s rehearsed rant– he’s had eighteen minutes of standing on the doorstep to come up with a good scolding for his dumbass boyfriend– is instantly swallowed by a startled gasp when he sees Jungkook’s face.
“Oh– baby? What’s wrong?”
He doesn’t wait for Jungkook to respond, or even to open the door the rest of the way. He pushes inside, kicking the door shut behind him and reaching up to cup the sides of Jungkook’s face, worry punching a rapid heartbeat inside of his chest.
Jungkook, looking half-asleep, just stares at Yoongi. His eyes are red and puffy, and his cheeks are flushed and warm beneath Yoongi’s palms. He’s in an oversized hoodie and boxers and socks, his shoulders hunched and his hands tucked into the front pocket.
“Jungkookie…are you sick? Is that why you weren’t answering your door? When did this start?” Yoongi’s right hand moves up to his forehead while his left tugs Jungkook’s hood off his head to reveal a disheveled mop of hair.
Still, Jungkook doesn’t speak. He makes a small, croaky sound, shivering as his head is exposed, and leans into the hand against his forehead.
With a weary, shuddering exhale, Jungkook sways forward, his forehead finding its way to Yoongi’s shoulder. Yoongi slides his hand to the back of his hot, sweaty neck.
“Let’s get you to bed,” Yoongi murmurs, giving Jungkook’s neck a gentle squeeze. “Is that where you just came from? I’m sorry I woke you up, baby.”
Jungkook gives a congested little whimper and noses his way into the crook of Yoongi’s neck. He leans heavily against him and Yoongi wraps an arm around his waist, suddenly worried he’ll have to carry Jungkook down the hallway.
“Okay, let’s go,” he says, quickly kicking his shoes off.
He turns, and Jungkook goes with him, slow but still upright. When they get to Jungkook’s bedroom, Yoongi guides Jungkook to sit on the edge of the bed and starts gathering up all of the crumpled tissues littering the room. He tosses them into the wastebasket and fetches a glass of water from the kitchen before making a stop at the medicine cabinet in the bathroom.
Jungkook has his hood pulled back up when Yoongi returns to the bedroom, chin to his chest, sitting in tired silence. Yoongi pushes his thighs apart and squats down between his legs, cupping two pills in his palm. Jungkook takes them when offered, and allows Yoongi to tilt the glass against his chapped lips until he sips some water down.
Yoongi settles on his knees. Jungkook’s sinuses look swollen and puffy. His nose is red, his eyes watery, and every other breath is punctuated by a soft sniffle.
“Were you sick yesterday?”
Jungkook makes a noncommittal sound in the back of his throat– a “maybe”, Yoongi guesses– and then coughs a couple of times.
Yoongi can’t hold back the frustration that’s slowly been simmering beneath the worry.
“And when exactly were you going to tell me, hmm?”
To his surprise, Jungkook clears his throat and replies hoarsely, “Thought it was allergies.”
It’s the first thing he’s said since Yoongi arrived. His voice is only half-there, croaky and thick with congestion.
Yoongi hums and rubs his hands over Jungkook’s thighs. He bites back his comment about how sick Jungkook sounds, as well as his disbelief that Jungkook thought any of this could be due to allergies, and reminds himself that Jungkook is a grown ass man who is feeling unwell but is perfectly capable of taking care of himself and will be completely fine.
Not that it makes Yoongi worry less.
“Wanna go back to sleep?”
Sniffling softly, Jungkook nods his head.
Quieter, Yoongi checks, “Do you want me to stay?”
Another nod.
Yoongi stands, stopping to press a kiss to Jungkook’s sweaty, overheated forehead, and then he reaches around him to pull the comforter back. He tugs on the hem of Jungkook’s hoodie. Jungkook’s expression is a mix of betrayal and sadness as his hoodie is stripped off of him, but he doesn’t protest verbally, just wraps his arms around himself and shivers until he’s nudged into a horizontal position.
Yoongi tucks the comforter around his shoulders and turns out the light before climbing into the other side of the bed. Jungkook rolls over to face him, curling in on himself with his eyes squeezed shut. He’s miserable, Yoongi can tell, but he’s quiet. Yoongi just hopes the fever reducers kick in soon, and Jungkook can get some sleep.
“Do you need anything?” Yoongi whispers, reaching over to card his fingers through Jungkook’s hair.
Jungkook’s only response is a soft, half-voiced grunt.
Pulling the other side of the comforter over himself, Yoongi sighs and watches sadly as Jungkook shivers himself to sleep.
*
Yoongi is startled awake what feels like minutes later. His arms are cold. He doesn’t even remember falling asleep. As he blinks into the darkness, a loud snore erupts from the other side of the bed.
Sitting up slowly, Yoongi rubs his eyes and checks the time. Several hours have passed since he arrived at Jungkook’s place. He looks over and frowns, remembering how quiet and sad Jungkook had seemed– remembers that he’d been a little too thrown off by Jungkook being sick that he hadn’t even thought to check his temperature or make sure he drank enough water, or–
A small whimper interrupts, stuffy and pitiful. It shifts into more snoring. Yoongi leans forward and sees that Jungkook has wrapped himself up in the entire comforter. It’s pulled up over his head and tucked around him like a perfect little blanket dumpling.
“Gonna overheat,” Yoongi mutters to himself. He’s sure Jungkook doesn’t feel that way, though, not with how much he’d been shivering. Poor thing.
Yoongi untucks the side of the comforter closest to himself first. Jungkook snorts loudly, smacks his lips, and then a second later he’s back to snoring. Yoongi waits a moment before he slides out of bed and pads around to the other side to untuck the comforter there too. He slowly reaches for the lamp and turns it on, waiting for his eyes to adjust.
The box of tissues that’s sitting on Jungkook’s nightstand is tipped over sideways, surrounded by used tissues that hadn’t been there just a few hours ago.
Jungkook’s snores have softened now to soft, congested snuffles. In the dim lighting, Yoongi watches the lump beneath the comforter move up and down with each labored breath. He reaches for the top of the comforter and starts to peel it down off of Jungkook’s head, stopping in surprise when he sees that Jungkook’s eyes are open.
“Oh. Hey, baby,” he coos, but Jungkook’s eyelashes are fluttering rapidly as his photic sneeze reflex is triggered by the lamp light.
“nghh? hh’hahh–! ahh-HAASHH! AHTCH’uh!”
The sneezes explode out of him, open-mouthed and messily unaware.
“Shit,” Yoongi curses, holding his arm up as if it’ll be able to block the light. “Sorry, baby–”
“AASH-huhh!”
Yoongi pulls out a handful of tissues from the sideways box. “Thought you were asleep,” he murmurs as he swipes the tissues under Jungkook’s nose, mopping up the mess as best he can.
As Yoongi pulls more tissues from the box, his free hand finds its way to Jungkook’s hair, carding through sweaty strands. “Fuck, I’m so sorry.”
“ghh’AHTCH-uh!”
“Oh no, baby. You gonna keep going?”
Jungkook sniffles, breath hitching like he is going to keep sneezing, but then he gets a hand up to scrub at his nose.
For a minute, Yoongi just stands there, leaning over just enough to block the lamp from Jungkook’s direct line of sight. He watches Jungkook sleepily paw at his nose, fighting a smile at how cute the sight is– Jungkook would be so pissed to know he’s thinking that.
Yoongi presses the back of his hand to Jungkook’s forehead. Still warm, but nothing that’s an emergency. Taking Jungkook’s temperature might have to wait until the morning, because his eyes are already closed again, his hand coming to rest on his chest. Yoongi cups one hand over Jungkook’s eyes just in case, then turns and rights the tissue box before turning off the lamp.
As soon as Yoongi goes back to his side of the bed and slides under the covers, Jungkook sniffles loudly. It’s followed by a soft groan, and then more sniffles, wet and frantic.
“Uh oh…”
“HSH-uhh! hahh’ish! hhh–? hh-HHH-ATSH’uh!”
Each sneeze is more congested and tired-sounding than the last. Jungkook’s entire body trembles from the force of it. Yoongi wiggles closer, waiting, until Jungkook whines softly.
“Tissue?” Yoongi asks, knowing full well Jungkook isn’t getting himself a tissue.
Sure enough, he hears wet snuffling and an attempt at a throat clear, but otherwise Jungkook lies there without moving. Yoongi smiles to himself and props himself up, leaning across Jungkook’s chest to grab the box from the nightstand.
“Blow your nose,” Yoongi instructs softly, plucking out a couple of tissues.
He holds them in the vicinity of where Jungkook’s hands are, but changes his mind almost immediately and decides to cup them around Jungkook’s nose himself. Jungkook whines again, but then obeys with a congested, shuddering exhale.
He’s only slightly surprised when Jungkook’s breath hitches partway through blowing his nose.
“hgshh-ehh!”
“Goodness,” Yoongi murmurs. “Now I understand why you thought this was allergies. You’re so sneezy, baby.”
A violent shiver runs through Jungkook just then, and he whimpers softly. It occurs to Yoongi then that with how suddenly and intensely sick Jungkook is, they might be looking at something worse than just a cold.
His hand finds Jungkook’s forehead again. Still fever-warm. “Can you tell me how you’re feeling, baby?”
Jungkook is quiet, sleepy. He sniffles, and Yoongi reaches again for the box of tissues, this time setting it on the bed between their two pillows.
“Is your throat sore?”
Jungkook nods.
“What about your body? Any aches or pains?”
Another nod.
“You’re running a fever, too. I think you have the flu.” Yoongi leans down and presses his lips to Jungkook’s cheek. “Poor thing. I know you feel awful, baby. I think some medicine will help out and let you get better rest. Can you stay awake for just a few more minutes?”
Jungkook doesn’t reply, physically or verbally, but Yoongi is certain he’ll try his best to stay awake, ever compliant.
Yoongi goes to round up what he should have the evening before: medicine, a thermometer, fever patches, a bottle of water, and Jungkook’s beloved heating pad.
“I’m going to turn on the lamp over here,” he says as he returns to the bedroom, reaching for the one on his nightstand. “Close your eyes for just a minute.”
He waits a beat, and then turns on the lamp. Jungkook is still in the same position, eyes closed, the blanket pulled up to his chin. Yoongi arranges everything on the nightstand and aims the thermometer at Jungkook’s forehead until it beeps.
“Damn, 39.1°C, damn,” Yoongi hisses. “You’re getting up there, baby. Let’s get some meds in you, okay? Can you sit up for me?”
Jungkook squints his eyes open briefly, then closes them again. Yoongi prepares a tissue, watching as his boyfriend’s eyelids flutter helplessly when he tries to open them again.
“AASH-huhh!”
He whimpers after. Yoongi wipes under his nose with the tissue.
“Okay, sit up, baby. Just for a sec.”
Jungkook’s breath whistles out of his nose. He scrunches up his entire face, shoulders hunched, and then sneezes twice more. “aagsh-uh! hh–! hh-hh’ASHH!”
“Bless you,” Yoongi croons, smoothing Jungkook’s sweaty hair back from his face. “All done?”
Jungkook licks his lips. They’re so dry and chapped. Yoongi waits for him to say something– or to sneeze again– but he only pushes his tongue to the corner of his mouth, breathing loudly due to the congestion, and sniffs once.
“Good.” Yoongi smiles. “Your poor nose.” He waits a few seconds. “Let me help you sit up, ‘kay?”
This time, Jungkook starts to push himself upright, sitting up and letting Yoongi tuck his pillow between him and the headboard. He shivers and brings a hand up to his face, swiping his wrist under his reddened nostrils.
“Can I have my hoodie?” He croaks out weakly, shivering again.
“I have something better,” Yoongi grins, holding up the heating pad.
Jungkook nods in acquiescence and closes his eyes as Yoongi plugs it in and tucks it under the blanket for him.
After Jungkook takes medicine and drinks some water, Yoongi applies a fever patch to his forehead and helps him lie down again. Jungkook’s breath hitches softly a few times as Yoongi finally turns out the light and gets back into bed. Yoongi expects another sneeze, but it doesn’t come.
Jungkook slowly reaches for a tissue from the box, sniffling, and attempts to blow his nose. His breath hitches again, catching on a congested, ragged inhale– but again, nothing follows. There’s a rustling as more tissues are pulled from the box, a squelching sound as Jungkook rubs and rubs and rubs his nose, and then a raspy, irritated groan before he sniffles his way into silence again.
“My poor baby,” Yoongi whispers, snuggling against Jungkook’s side. He rubs Jungkook’s chest with one hand, hopeful that the medicine will kick in soon.
For a minute or two, they’re both quiet. Both still. Yoongi is starting to drift off when he feels Jungkook’s chest quake beneath his palm.
“Hm?”
“ngh’HSHSH! aagsh-uh! ahh’CHUH!”
“Bless you!”
Yoongi grabs a couple of tissues, but Jungkook is ready to intercept them, pressing them quickly to his nose before–
“HSHSH! hgshh-uhh!”
“Ohh, baby.” Yoongi frowns.
Jungkook blows his nose loudly. He whines pitifully and rolls onto his side to face Yoongi, curling up small. Yoongi wraps an arm around him. He leans forward to kiss his forehead, and detours to kiss the tip of his nose instead when he remembers the fever patch. Jungkook nuzzles his way against Yoongi’s throat, and Yoongi tips his chin up to accommodate.
“Poor thing. I’ve got you, baby.”
“Ynn…” Jungkook coughs softly, clears his throat. “Yoon?”
“Yeah, baby?”
Jungkook’s breath puffs out against Yoongi’s neck. “Thanks…love’ya.”
“I love you, baby. I hope you’re feeling better soon.”
Pulling Jungkook closer, Yoongi adjusts the blanket over his shoulders and then rubs his back in wide circles.
“Sleep now. No more sneezing tonight,” he teases, but Jungkook doesn’t hear him, already snoring away as he surrenders to the pull of cold medicine and the warmth of his heating pad.
