I find it hard to believe that Shepard made it all the way through 1 and 2 and never picked up on or asked about whether Dr. Chawkas had a family but it’s nice that the subject come up in 3.
Dr. Chakwas: None to speak of, really. I’m the last of a line of prestigious medical professionals. The Alliance is my spouse, and you’re all my children.
She’s pretty happy about how working with Cerberus turned out since they skated off with Cerberus’s best people, best ship, etc.
(3 gets a little weird and contradictory with 2 regarding Shepard/crewmates’ opinions on Cerberus, which I try to ignore, but at least the doc’s pretty consistent. As is Ash, who had and continues to have a very low opinion of Cerberus.)

I do love that the Alliance had no clue what to do with her since she was on leave from her previous job when she teamed up with Cerberus, although I have no idea how she managed to walk away from that as “never officially part of Cerberus.” I suppose it’s because there weren’t any rumors flying around about her joining up, unlike with Shepard (courtesy of TIM, ugh).
Shepard: Your place is in Normandy’s med bay, not some lab.
Dr. Chakwas: I couldn’t agree more. You say the word, and I’m with you.
And off she goes to the docking bay because, as Shepard says, the Normandy wouldn’t be the same without her.
