ME1 characters opinion on fish freak Shepard

Joker - He actually thinks some fish are pretty cool, but that said thinks a lot of Shepard’s fish are a bit lame. Never tells her that though! Usually just makes teasing remarks about it. “How’s Shepard Jr doing? Ever since you fell into that fish tank and killed all his buddies he seemed pretty sad.” He keeps a tally on how many fish die with the help of EDI.

Anderson - Not that surprised in all honesty. He happy that the commander’s happy and he’ll ask for updates every once in awhile. When he led the resistance on Earth Shepard had promised him that she’d name one of the fish after him. He thought it was absurd and hilarious, but he knew that it was just another way to honor him. He’s proud of the life she’s building, even during the war.

Dr. Chakwas - Relieved that Shepard found a hobby. She’s known Shepard since she was a scrappy teenager just enlisting into the alliance. She remembers the way Shepard took comfort in violent behavior, constantly defiant, no longer able to lose herself when she was already lost. When Anderson took her under his wing she felt so much relief, Shepard had a chance and one she refused to fuck up. Then Shepard threw herself too much into work, even with her closest friends on akuze she never quite relaxed. She heard the reports, sole survivor, the files always seemed to be missing something. Shepard never talked about it, Chakwas never pushed. The commander still insisted on fighting, to keep working herself to the bone, holding onto the single rope that kept her from losing her way. So Chakwas was estatic when Shepard showed interest in something other than fighting, that same relief she felt when Shepard was finally doing right is the same relief she felt when Shepard started to bond with her crew once more. The doctor will happily listen to her ramblings if it means she’s happy.

Ashley - Definitely wasn’t what she was expecting. At first she thinks ceberus must be driving Shepard crazy if the rumors are true. Then around ME3 when she personally gets to see the huge fish tank she thinks it’s kinda cute. It reminded her of when her little sister used to keep a bunch of fish from whatever fairs were around. Her dad used to hate it so bad, used to go on these huge rants about responsibility and not to be suprised when it dies.

Kaidan - Didn’t think the commander had hobbies. Definitely didn’t expect it to be…fish. During ME2 it made his heart ache over such a silly thing as Shepard obsessing over fish, but it makes him think the commander he knew is actually her.

Garrus - Was there when she bought her first fish and subsequently killed it. He found it hilarious and thought it was a phase, apparently human children have a habit of buying cheap little fish and killing them. Then Shepard starts buying more fish, then she starts naming them, and talking to them for hours while the normandy heads to its next location. Then Garrus is more concerned than confused. Has a fear that Shepard feels alone on the ship despite being surrounded by friends and thinks she might refuse to vent her issues to people who can y’know care for her and talk back? Shepard eventually invites him up to her cabin after a good week of Garrus pushing her to socialize more. Neither of them talk for awhile and just stare at the fish tank, it’s so soothing and makes Garrus relax, just a bit. He understands the appeal of fish pals now.

Wrex - He just thinks it’s stupid. Why the hell waste precious ship resources and money on getting fish food? At first thought Shepard wanted to grow them to eat them. Was disappointed when she said no. He wouldn’t care too much if it wasn’t such an obsession, every visit on Tuchanka she sneaks a way to give an update on the damn fish. Well…as long as Shepard is sane and happy he doesn’t say much.

Tali - Despises the fish so much. Yes they’re pretty, yes they’re quite fascinating, yes they’re very amusing when you’re drunk and laying on Shepard’s toned thighs and rambling away…but they stink! Shepard keeps the tank impeccably clean but still she can just smell…fish!! It’s so distracting from the beauty that she begs Shepard to at least buy air fresheners the next time they’re on the citadel. She is glad that Shepard is taking part of some hobby besides trying to get herself killed, even if it’s too many fish and model ships. She’s more into the ship building if she’s honest.

Liara - Understands that humans keep fish as pets. Asari do as well, though more for food purposes once it’s clear they’re near the end of their days. Liara understands that fish are quite comforting imagery and provide Shepard a bit of stability. They give her a certain control over her life. But she can’t help but feel hungry every time she sees them. Asari can handle many toxins, in fact the more colorful the fish the more likely they are to have a better taste. So Shepard keeping dozens of them just reminds Liara of some of the best cuisine she’s had and how the war will make that impossible. Shepard is quite open to her when it comes to her obsession, shows her all the measurements, the notes on each species, the fishes personal preferences. It’s endearing to her.

is there any reason we can't invite chakwas to the citadel dlc party…??? if cortez and traynor are there, why can't the doctor, who followed shepard for all THREE games wherever they go, join the party too?????? if you say she could die in ME2, so as wrex in ME1 and all ME2 squadmates????
