Best Nutrients To Take When You are Injured
A question I am asked very often and makes perfect common sense is what to do when injured. Yes, I also injure myself from time-to-time and a speedy recovery is essential especially for me as fitness professional. Nutrition especially specific nutrients play a significant role for injuries and speeding up recovery that I want to share with you. Take for example either surgery or injury that kicks off with inflammation, which includes pain, swelling, redness, which draw healing chemicals to the area. The damaged tissue must be removed, healed, and strong permanent tissue in its place
In this instance and during most injuries it is critical to consume anti-inflammatory products which include mixed nuts and seeds, fish like sardines, salmon and mackerel, ground flax or flax oil, fish oil, avocado and olive oil. Foods that you must avoid especially during injury is comfort foods such as food with trans-fat, vegetable oils and all processed foods with high saturated fats.
Inflammation managing herbs and spices excellent for injuries (and other times) is curcumin with a minimum of 400-600mg or seven teaspoons per day during high inflammatory periods. 600-1200mg garlic extract or two to four garlic cloves each day. 500 -1000mg Bromelain that you get from pineapple or two cups of pineapple per day. Berries, tea and cocoa such as green tea, grape extract, citrus extract and blueberries. When you are deeper into your recovery period make sure you consume enough protein, although I must stress on plant-based protein and protein supplements and also a diverse mixture of fruit and vegetables.
