Bestmile raises $16.5 million to manage human and AI-driven fleets

Bestmile, a transportation software startup, has raised $16.5 million in a Series B round led by Blue Lagoon Capital and TransLink Capital.

Existing investors Road Ventures,Partech,Groupe ADP,AirbusVentures, Serena and others also participated in the round. The company, which launched in 2014, has raised $31 million to date.

Similar to air traffic controllers, this startup provides an entire infrastructure that manages driverless vehicles, as well as end-users.

This space is interesting, and to be honest, more rewarding than the flying cars I was promised as a kid. In terms of man-power, you’ll still need someone to control these vehicles so I’d imagine a new set of job skills for autonomous vehicle management may replace the physical driver.

全球首部自動行駛巴士 明年瑞士投入服務

正當無人駕駛技術還在路面進行測試，有公司已經決定將技術應用在公共交通工具之上。瑞士初創公司 BestMile 研發了一個系統，像航空控制塔調動飛機般能夠操控無人駕駛車隊；早前 BestMile 取得了瑞士和法國巴士營運商 PostBus 的合約，稍後就會投入服務。

2014 年創立的 BestMile，選擇和大學合作研發自動駕駛公共交通系統。由於這些巴士需要面對交通、行人和其他障礙物下，確保安全和有效率，所以系統會以可靠、具彈性和配合其他交通系統作為首要條件。BestMile 的軟件容許巴士公司即時遙距監察、控制和優化車隊。

BestMile 表示，更多機構對無人駕駛技術感興趣，很大原因是 Google 的大力推廣。首部無人駕駛巴士以電力推動，能夠承載 9 名乘客，由法國生產商 Nayva 製造，並且會在 2016 年春季於瑞士的 Sion 進行為期兩年的測試。
