My thoughts on my first BWE for Guild Wars 2
I liked it, I mean, the quest thing is nice. I like how you can go to the map and see all those little gold hearts and that when you run up to them you don't have to take the quest from the person, it just shines up in your right-hand corner and you can run around filling up the bar.
I like the event system and how you can join in at any time, how people are nice and help you up, how you don't even really have to collect your reward because it pops up on your screen. It's almost as if some of the events are really hard and you've come to hate the NPC involved so it's like "Here, have the reward because we know you don't want to go back and talk to that person again."
I also love how it's not just "kill x amount of y." or "collect x amount of j and x amount of f and bring them to this random NPC in some place not even connected to your quest location."
What I experienced of the game was really good, and I do look forward to playing it.
That said, at the back of my mind there was this constant nagging thought of "you'll have to do this all again when it comes out, you'll have to make your characters again so don't get too attached."
I guess, when I actually look at it, I play the games to become good at them, and with that comes my love of possessions (a guilty pleasure of mine) and so those great weapons, armour, magical items etc.
It hit me yesterday that I care greatly when I unlock something powerful and I gain a great sense of achievement when showing it off. It's not the most admirable of traits to possess, but I possess it.
And then I looked at Guild Wars 2, and I looked at Aion (which I've been playing recently) and I made a decision that I would prefer to be working on getting more pretty stuff that I can keep in a game that won't be wiped from the servers, than playing a game I'm sure to love only to have it vanish out from under me.
This is what I meant when I said I wasn't really interested in the beta. And this event has renewed that feeling.
I do massively look forward to the 3 day headstart. And until then (and probably even after that) the content you get from me will be fairly regularly Aion, with maybe some GW2/GW stuff thrown in.
