"#THIS MAKES ME SO MAD #HOW ABOUT WE DON'T GO ON WIKIPEDIA AND CHANGE ACTORS BIOS LIKE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL KIDS YES??" But seriously. Like, come on fandom, let's be mature.
Ugh don't even get me started! This brings me back to when the Hobbit fandom constantly changed Aidan Turner's & Richard Armitage's with varying phrases like "majestic" or "not as majestic as his uncle" etc., etc.
THE THING IS: People who aren't part of your fandom (a shocking thought, I know) may search the actors/characters to try to understand something (OR BE DOING ACTUAL RESEARCH!) and be confused with these changes to the bio. I know it's kind of a weak defence but seriously. I've looked up Sam/Dean/Cas/Bobby/Supernatural people because I don't watch the show and wanted to know why everyone was freaking out and if there are references, it just confuses and irritates me.
If you say "Well nobody uses Wikipedia to do research" let me tell you thing. I often use Wikipedia as a second source. For example, if I read something on an other site's bio page and it seems odd, I go to Wikipedia because I know a dedicated group of fact-checkers frequently update and source the content and it's an easy way to squash rumours.
And I know some people are going to say "Aw, you're such a wet blanket" or "We're just having fun!" but really, if that's what you think is fun, changing someone's biography SO MUCH that WIKIPEDIA has to DISABLE CHANGES is actually ridiculous and completely immature.
Sorry for the rant, this just really irritates me.
