Pre Major Project
Continuing with visual language experiments, the previous experiments felt quite impersonal to me so I went back to more practical methods of image making.
Pre Major Project
Quick experiment using watercolour and photoshop, trying to simplify the image to make animating easier but still add a sense of tactility with paper texture.
Pre Major Project
Progressively developing a visual language alongside the project idea which will be an animation short loosely based on an anonymous online confession about someone’s marriage. Focussing on domesticity at the moment in a very obvious way..
Pre Major Project
Observational drawing once more studying behaviours
Pre Major Project
Studying the character of strangers through observational drawings
The lead character’s anonymity
Initially it was my intention to show more of the character, maybe make her appearance an eccentric one, but I realised after my development of her shop window walking -where she became a shadow- it was more interesting and in a sense, unnecessary to show her character in such an obvious way because as mentioned in previous posts, her actions are much more dominant in revealing this.
Reactions
Seeing the other characters reactions added an amusing effect; the actions of the lady are very dominant in illustrating her eccentric nature so it was important to see the aftermath of her actions through these expressions.
Development of the events
In dealing with the theme of eccentricities, I wanted to play off of other character’s reactions so came about with the shop scene where the elderly lady haphazardly lands her items on the shop assistant causing a nail varnish mess. The following scene is of the snail, which manages to dodge the falling ornament unscathed (the ornaments are evoked by the forceful entrance of the old lady who slams the door) but is crushed instead by the ladies bag who again clammers into the scene causing a ruckus. Thus the final scenes I felt needed to be more biographical and tell us something different to the two very similar opening sequences. So the idea came about of displaying the hobby of her collecting dolls; here, the lady takes care with her things arranging them in an orderly fashion and cleaning them. Although, her redemption is quickly diminished when she stubs her cigarette out, with little regard, in the plant pot. And finally, the fourth scene reveals her love of dance/ music and cats as she ends the animation dancing with a very unwilling cat cradled in her arms.
