yesss the teaser was definitely not cohesive, i know more things from the bts photos than i do from the teaser (which is probably the point but still) can't wait for an actual trailer and stuff (and an official release day so i can plan to watch the whole thing in a day but ya know 🤷🏼‍♀️)

ngl, i think lots of people, in general w media and stuff not just the st fandom, confuse parts of a character or plot that they don't like/agree with for bad writing and that's maybe why people say the duffers can't write women even tho if they couldn't, all the female characters would basically be the same and very based in stereotypes when they aren't

right yes!!! exactly like i've seen plenty of shows and movies where Every female character was just a tired stereotype or just didn't act like any woman in real life would, and st is... not that.

Every day I try to figure out what agenda marvel is trying to push and I get so confused every time hdkajsjsksj

it’s such a mess genuinely because it’s like. on a broad level they’re getting equipment and funding from the us government to do propaganda in favor of the us military and demonizing Those Scary Foreign Places (see: iron man, captain marvel, every avengers movie). they’re part of a huge extremely rich corporation so they’re doing propaganda in favor of unrestrained capitalism and demonizing the working class and leftist beliefs (see: iron man trilogy, the spider-man movies).

BUT the mcu is of course a collage! there are so many different writers and directors contributing to the universe, and the corporate agendas don’t always line up with the stories being told (see: anti-imperialism in thor ragnarok, condemnation of the us military and surveillance in the captain america trilogy, carol discovering she’s been brainwashed into fighting for an imperialist state when she was actually wiping out innocent people in captain marvel). captain marvel is especially interesting because the film’s narrative is SO obviously in conflict with itself. similarly, tony stark’s character is INSANE because he’s pure capitalist propaganda, yet he’s also personally responsible for multiple lead villains and large-scale disasters. while the billionaire philanthropist is painted as a hero in the text, he’s revealed to be a villain when you look at it for a little bit longer.

so it’s like. pretty much every single marvel movie has some propaganda in favor of the us military and/or billionaires/megacorporations. but some of them also have narratives or subtext rebuking those very same powers. there are basically four questions: which of these contradictions are intentional, to what degree, what does that mean for marvel films as media, and might something that functions effectively as propaganda still contain a meaningful critique of the institution it supports?

i don’t really have the answers to any of them, but i think they’re good things to think about when you’re consuming mcu content (or any film, honestly, hollywood is flooded with us military money).

Can I just say that one of the main reasons, especially on rewatches, that I don't think s3 deviates too much from the atmosphere of s3 is bc of little details like the small business dying in the town. That didn't have to be in there, it's there on purpose many times. Also I dont *love* the evil scary Russian narrative or whatever but I think ppl forget that technically it was an American hiring the Russians, keeping that theme of distrust in the US government (ppl probably also dont like it bc they dont wanna see their ships not doing to hot but thats another thing entirely)

the way you're literally right on every count... there are three factors that i personally think make the "scary russians" plot less egregious than most people tend to find it. those are that kline (an american politician and major proponent of unrestrained capitalism) was in on it for the money, that the russians are ultimately just exploiting a dangerous weapon that the american government created in the first place, and that the show's plot has always been reliant on the context of the cold war.

s3 has like... a lot to say about capitalism and i really should make one of my insufferable long posts about it bc it's really much less one-note and more complex than it seems on the surface
