The ‘Great’ Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn

What has become known popularly as the “Christmas Star” or “Star of Bethlehem”, an especially vibrant planetary conjunction easily visible in the evening sky, culminates tonight on Dec. 21, the longest night of the year, when Jupiter and Saturn will be separated by just 6 arc minutes. That's equal to 0.1 degrees or about one-fifth the apparent width of the moon.  It is the closest that the two planets  will come in conjunction in nearly 800 years, marking a momentous winter solstice for all.  ( 📸 NASA.gov)
