Fun story: My friend and betta sensei recommended getting food pellets for my fish babies, and so I did. Went with a betta pellet from a well-known name brand. Gimpy was still on thawed peas, but I gave a pellet to Slick immediately thinking that he’d just swallow it in one go, right?
NOPE. Turns out it was a completely different size from my friend’s pellets, and was too big for Slick to swallow, so he just carried it around in his mouth until it softened enough to take chunks out of.
And Gimpy is def improving-- he’s almost ready to make his debut. I moved him to a recovery tank that’s shallower than my 5 gallon, and made it easier for me to track his appetite and BMs. Once he got over the transfer, he started to move around and is now able to stay completely submerged and upright a majority of the time.
He will, however, occasionally just lie motionless on his side at the bottom of his tank or completely limp next to his moss ball. So he just loves giving his mommy a heart attack.
