This ship has admittedly sailed (and is likely drydocked at this point!) but the 'Better Offers' reread is fresh along with this reader's curiosity -- Just wondering: Did you have an intended path/next steps/end for the story? Specs not required -- Just wondering if Kibbs would've steered toward a happy ending in that universe (or were doomed to the standard NCIS soul-crushing couples' fate!)
Oh, wow, that’s such an awesome question. Unfortunately my answer is a little less awesome, a little more… scattered. 😂
One of my big goals was to really move Kate up through the ranks so that she was a little more on par with Gibbs, work-wise. I wanted to really have her respected in her field and give her back that confidence and swagger from the pilot. She seemed to lose a little of that as a Gibbsian protégée. I wanted to build her back up to the stand-alone professional badass we saw sass back at him in ‘Yankee White’.
In regards to their relationship? I was always sorta torn. There was a tiny bit of me that wanted her to outgrow the relationship and move on, knowing that he wouldn’t. But, let’s face it… I’m also a romantic sap. So, likely, it would have been headed for a happier ending.
Short term I was planning on having them take down both Ari and La Grenouille, if that’s what you mean.
