today on the bus, a kid (like 12 years old) saw the pride pin on my bag and said, "i like your pin!" and i said, "thanks—happy pride!" and she said, "you, too!" as i stepped off the bus into bright sun and blue sky.

The Sun: Describe a childhood memory
thank you!! Oh gosh wow okay. The first time my baby brother signed (he doesn’t use spoken words) “i love you” to me is probably the best childhood memory I have. He was about 6 and I was about 11, and he had a fairly large range of things he could sign with me, and my sign language was improving slowly as well (most of my vocab was what’s needed to communicate with a small child, after all) and I’d been looking after him that day cos we had an inset day. Mum and stepdad were at work, our sister would have been 8 at the time and her school didn’t have an inset day which was absolutely hilarious to us of course. So me, my two brothers aged 10 and 6, had spent the day breaking every rule we could think of since my sister wasn’t there to tell on us. We’d jumped on the beds and had the dogs on the sofas, we had ice cream and hot chocolate for breakfast, we watched TV - cartoons and a harry potter film - and had crisps and juice and chocolate for lunch. It was epic.
We made a den in our shared room from blankets and the bunk beds, and dragged in all the pillows and all the soft things and duvets and everything and it was so cozy, the three of us were sitting there giggling like mad and just being kids for once, and we were all kinda tired, and I remember Alex just signing to me that he loved me, and then to Joey that he loved him, and Joey’s sign language was bad and he didn’t get it and we laughed about it and teased him and gah
