As we recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of the first meeting of the Organization's General Assembly, held on January 10, 1946 in London, UK, the United Nations can be proud of its successes by staying a shining example of multilateralism where every country, no matter how small, gets an #equal voice. However, the United Nations is also aware of its many failures. The #COVID19 pandemic has exposed serious flaws in #global #cooperation and #solidarity, as when we are faced with the #climate emergency, the global response continues to be completely inadequate. Traditional conflicts are more and more long-lasting, and they are increasingly difficult to resolve. Geopolitical tensions are hardening. The threat of nuclear proliferation and confrontation is back. #Inequalities are growing. Hunger is gaining ground. Technology poses new threats - cyberspace warfare, disinformation, hate speech, mass surveillance - and for the first time in decades, the number of people falling into extreme poverty is on the rise. So for us to be able to move #together towards a #greener and more #equitable world, inspired by the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development, we must continue to accomplish, together, what we could never have done it separately, and show that spectacular #transformations are still possible ... #LetsBreakTheCycle #BeUnited #WeAreOne #NoPlanetB #UN75 More information at https://shar.es/aoeH1b
