henry will not, and should not, have a redemption arc.

first of all, I'm a big advocate for some villains are just villains. not every bad guy in every story needs to be secretly forced into it, secretly a good guy, etc etc.

second, narratively speaking, it would be the most anticlimactic end I could possibly think of if the big bad villain got saved two episodes before the end of the series and the characters just fight a bunch of black dust. there's not enough time to do a good redemption arc even if he deserved one (which he doesn't) and the mindflayer isn't established enough to be the sole evil our good guys face.

and third, henry, regardless of his past, is a sadistic and narcissistic abuser who takes joy in the pain and suffering of others, wants the world to do as he commands and becomes angry when things don't go his way, and is a very clear allegory for a child predator. was he himself assaulted and abused as a child? yes. does that excuse him for assaulting and abusing and murdering others? no. henry is the villian, and to be honest, suggesting that he should be given a redemption arc and team up with will, who he has repeatedly assaulted and removed his autonomy, is honestly disgusting and an injustice to will as a character.
