Enemies to lovers 😜

This is my jam! This is where I live! This is just about the only kind of ship/romance oriented fic I'm interested in, and I am entirely uninterested in what that says about me! If they don't betray each other at least once, what is the point!

Honestly the only thing I'd say here is that I don't actually need it to be enemies to lovers, per se, so much as just movement along the enmity-fondness axis. Enemies to friends is also delicious, enemies to reluctant-cooperation-and-begrudging-respect, enemies to enemies-with-benefits, enemies-and-lovers... I'll take this more or less however it's served.

Because it just lends itself so perfectly to so many of the other things I'm into: betrayals, pain, conflict, betrayals, whump, the agony of vulnerability especially in front of an enemy, betrayals, conflicts of loyalty, betrayals, knives to the throat as the only valid form of foreplay, betrayals, characters caught in the untenable and intolerable situation of loving the same person they hate, enmity-by-necessity, and have I mentioned betrayals?

And also just the way it tends to focus on or frame itself around the idea of knowing, and decoupling that from love, because it often begins as this kind of 'intimate enemies' dynamic where two people who stand on opposite sides and for opposite things, two people who hate one another, are also the ones who know each other better than anyone else. And it's that knowing-and-being-known, as something excruciating rather than something immediately beautiful or gentle, but also something too magnetic or compelling to completely discard...

and so yeah okay it can turn to love in the end and I like that route (especially because it often gives me some good redemption arcs) but it can also turn to or at the very least pass through a phase of two characters who know, intimately and better than anyone else, exactly how to hurt each other. And then it's about the holding and wielding of that power, to trust or to betray (or both)...

Anyway my point is. Yeah this is good shit.

I was literally reading this eyes wide then laughed alot at your tags!!! Hon, I have fallen for many a villain in my time so no worries. It's just I associate him with my dad so I can't join you in this one unfortunately although Prequel Anakin is indeed hot.

I was kinda worried this might have come across as a bit weird to you, especially given your personal background. ^^;;

Then there is the unfortunate situation of the absence of adequate expressions for asexual people to describe the nature of their attraction (in a concise manner, as opposed to the usual long-winded explanation) - which is quite a dilemma, trust me. The commonly used ones, such as “hot”, are such a well of misunderstandings, yet I find myself using them for lack of another convenient one-word description.

As for the Dad thing - it would be rather ... inappropriate (or even downright *blegh*), being attracted to a character that, more or less directly, is tied to your father. So I can definitely see why you’re not sharing my sentiment. I, for one, do not have this association at all.

Besides, it’s not such a common character to gush over, is it!? At least not in terms of what most expect, i.e. “not your average bishie” (as opposed to his former self). Then again, I’ve come across posts or tags like this more often than I presumed by now. Hmm...

You know, I’m really not one of those pervy ladies who have a bit, well “different” take on this than me - be it a mere libidinous response, or, in some cases, kinks of any kind (most notably the “daddy” one). Yikes! Not my cuppa!

They are very welcome to do whatever they please - but also to keep their smut. I’d rather have some nice anidala / vaderdala fluff for me, thank you very much!

And the lightsaber action I’m into is just that - literal swordfighting, no pun intended. (which is a very aesthetically pleasing manner of combat, imho - almost like a dance) Men who are good at martial arts, especially with swords, seem more attractive by default (with women, it is just as awesome, though) - and Anakin / Vader is second to none in this art.

To me he’s just this mysterious, immensely powerful adonis type of man turned into a living work of art - visuals-wise. His physique is certainly a sight to behold (not that I’ve already pointed that out more than once, lol), and I can’t help but eye him in that respect whenever he’s on screen (or well-drawn comic panel).

That you can’t really see his face isn’t even much of a bother, if at all. I gotta say, though, that he is a bit of an exception, as he is the only masked character that has had this effect on me so far. He indeed is a very elegant & charismatic character, on top of the physical appeal, so that might be a reason. The medieval European, and feudal Japanese influences of the costume design are certainly a great asset, too, as I like these styles very much - as is the black colour.

If we’re adding the “could actually have been a good father” aspect, the “redeemable tragic villain” one, plus *hot damn* Prequels Anakin to the mix - with all his personality, background, and romance - then he’s pretty much irresistable, imho. And you know how much I like this combination. Totally my type!

Interesting choices! Let’s dive in!

10. Favorite trope/element/scenario in fic?  I do like some good angsty hurt/comfort. Character A is in deep trouble, Character B (or B + friends) rescues, comfort. Doesn’t have to be shippy. Could be friends getting each other out of a jam, rivals having to work together, or anything in between. 

I am also the worst at writing that in and torturing my favorite characters...(for the fluffs later, of course), so....uh...there’s that too.....

11. Least favorite trope/element/scenario? This can also tie into #12 below, but am not a fan of gender-swapping characters. That’s not to say I won’t give a fic a chance. I’ve read stories with ships I don’t even care for if the plot is engaging enough for me, and I have poked at stories with a fem!Kaiba or Atem or whoever else, but it is very hard for me to get into them, so I tend to just avoid those tags entirely.

12. What turns you away the most from a fic? Honestly, a story can have the most beautiful prose or engaging dialogue, but grammatically, if I can’t find where the paragraphs start and end, or tell when characters are speaking, it’s a major turn off. Especially now that I have ridiculous eye-strain issues, it’s hard for me to sit down and try and dissect a huge wall of text.

Also, I love reading tags on AO3, but I do not want to have to scroll down the page two or three times to get to the fic summary...if there is one. Reading through a massive tag jumble sometimes is just as hard. Highlight the main characters, a few tags, and make a nice summary please!

@renaerys didn't know you were into RE. I confess to not playing the games but I got super into the characters last year. Bloody love Wesker, Chris, Claire, Leon and Jill. I even started writing fanfic.

I am SUPER in to RE! I love the games so much, and the recent remakes have been so incredible and nostalgic. I can totally see you loving Wesker, we all have our types... ;) May I humbly direct your attention to Ada Wong though? She is everything. <3 What fic are you writing??

Sounds like you are making great progress in finding what works for you. One of the best things Ive learnt is not to put pressure on yourself, just do whatever works to write. You can always redraft but you learn and most importantly enjoy by doing. I know you’ve got some great ideas that deserve to be seen. J xx

Yes, I really am. And it’s wonderful when you get to succeed at all these things.

As for the pressure, oh you’re so totally right! Before, I used to put a lot of pressure on myself. But with time I’ve learned that pressure off, lets creativity out. So yeah, I’m still adding ideas to enrich the plot.

I’m currently on the way to put it on a skeleton and then, I’ll start writing based on that skeleton. It’s really fun. :D

Also if she is the birth of consciousness then perhaps she can represent Ma'at Thoth's counterpart who both travel with Ra (Aquila/her dad as Horius is also connected with Ra too) on his boat. Ma'at is the truth of the Universe that Thoth reveals via his wisdom and that could link in with Vega being truth loving but also stubborn and haughty at times (coughVergilcough) when she is not as enlightened. Perhaps Caladria is more wise??

Also is Caladria purple with white cos that would fit the moon theme but also it reminds me of the burning of potassium or lithium? This purple flame.

Aquila and Suzaku are like connected by their life force as I said so it makes sense they’re the ‘same’ mythological figure. Very cool trio of gods and they all come to deal with apep or something???

And you’re spot on about Caladria, we have talked about this before, me and Vivi that she is connected with white too, and of course she is the older/wiser of the trio. She’s like the glue tying the phoenix together if you will cause red and blue are extremes of the spectrum and always fighting ^^
