Lightning in a Bottle (ShiSaku)

It's time for a new ShiSaku fic! This one was written as part of the ShiSaku Rodeo server's Lunar New Year Exchange event. My giftee is the wonderful @sonorous-cicada who requested Akatsuki!Shisui, and I am SO EXCITED to have the chance to dive into that AU. This fic is going to have a few chapters, so keep an eye on this post if you want to follow the updates as I post them.

Summary: For ten years, Shisui has waited for Itachi’s little brother to grow strong enough to face the wicked truth about the genocide of their clan and the man who orchestrated it all. But ten years is a long time for resentment to fester untreated, and when the time is finally ripe for retribution, it isn’t his kin to whom he can turn for help.

Hanging all my hopes on a girl with pink hair and a lazy name, he thinks, wondering yet again how he’s managed to live this long.

But every once in a while, determination surpasses mediocrity and maidens topple monsters. When you manage to catch lightning in a bottle, thunder is never far behind.

I hope you're doing fine and well, Jo. ♡ I've read all your fanfics and i must say that aside from your stories, i also love reading the metas you've posted here on tumblr and how you analyze and view the dynamics between pairings (ShiSaku, ItaIno, etc.). I'm extremely curious, though. As one of Ino's CEOs, what are your thoughts on Deiino? 👀

The heiress and the hierophant is on my top 3's most greatest naruto fanfics to ever be written. I am loving the different dynamics that you portray between Ino and Itachi towards other characters. Since Danzo has made quite a notable appearance, would Fu Yamanaka eventually appear as well, being one of Danzo's main guards and all? I couldn't help but think about it, and that dynamic would especially be fascinating and something i wish was explored more in Ino-centric fics.

Thanks! Not sure when I’ll be able to return to updating that or any other fics these days. But I can tell you that Fuu is meant to come into the story and play an important role.

Hi Jo! I hope you are doing alright. I just wanted to say that you're one of the best authors i know, and i'm really in love with your writing. As someone who struggles with showing and not telling when it comes to writing (partly because i taught myself English, so it is really difficult for me to describe many things), do you have any tips on getting better at that and writing in general? What kind of practices have you done for your writing? I would like to write my own Naruto fic someday, but trying to ensure that everyone stays in character is a whole other beast altogether

Read a lot. That’s the best advice I think anyone can take to become better at writing. The more you read (both good books and shitty books) the more you’ll figure out what you like and don’t like, what’s good to emulate and what you should avoid, and it will help you find your own style.

if you think for even just a second how fucking crazy bonkers it is that women are so frequently kept from being protagonists or important or fully realized characters when its like. That is literally 50% of the world population. Half of all people (more or less. hopefully more as time marches on!) are women. And you look at media and think about how many protagonists are men and their best friends are men and the ensemble cast is 80-100% men and the fandoms are about men and the romances are about men. well. YOU GO INSANE

Hector Barbossa & Elizabeth Swann | Parallels & Developments

#These two had such an impact on each other–in a weird way it’s Platonic!Hades and Persephone #where she learns to become a better king of the dark sea and dead men than he ever could and he comes to almost admire her for it. #Just… y'all have been sleeping on this relationship. #Elizabeth didn’t retain shit from Jack Sparrow–Will did.  She learned from Barbossa. (via @theimpossiblescheme)

THIS.  Not only is Barbossa far more of a Proper (Cinematic) Pirate than Jack (with the outgrown Errol Flynn hair to prove it!), but he absolutely plays the role of Hades in Curse of the Black Pearl.

While Elizabeth first boards the Black Pearl (here functioning as both Hades’ chariot and Charon’s ferry) more or less voluntarily, Barbossa/Hades does indeed kidnap her and take her to the “land of the dead”—the Isla de Muerta.  The Black Pearl also serves as a kind of limbo, holding men halfway between death and life.  Much like Pluto of old, CotBP!Barbossa is strongly associated with both wealth and death, even more so than the other pirates.  When they get to the “Underworld”, we see that the cursed crew members require a blood sacrifice to regain (permanent) corporeality, paralleling the shades Odysseus encounters who require blood to regain the ability to speak (Odyssey 11.24-50).

By the time At World’s End rolls around, Elizabeth has begun to catch up to Barbossa in terms of piracy and command.  She visits another, more literal Underworld at Barbossa’s side; he knows the way, and she has more than learned from her previous experiences.  It was Elizabeth thinking more piratically—thinking like Barbossa—that made the trip to the Locker necessary, after all.

In the end, she eclipses Barbossa in power and is crowned King, with her own beloved ferrying souls between worlds as she sails the seven seas.  Like Persephone, Elizabeth straddles worlds and holds power in both, and it was Barbossa/Hades who first helped her get there.

(Anyway, this series owns my entire ass, follow for more irregularly scheduled Pirates content and hmu if you want a longer essay on how the Locker journey in AWE is a classical katabasis narrative with a sweet twist on Orpheus’ in particular.  Also Barbossa quotes the Aeneid.)

Hi! I am just thinking of an AU where Ino is psychological genius (unlike Shikamaru who is a battle tactician, Ino is more of a deductive genius like mycroft holmes (Mycroft is the older brother of Sherlock Holmes, he is more smarter than him but would rather be wrong than to prove his theory right) type of vibe. And because of that She is born with the difficulty to feel things or to feel empathy due to her high intelligence so Inoichi have to trained her emotions to help her learn emotions easily so her cheerful, bubbly loud personalities is half mask and half truth. And then There is Itachi who can clock that Ino is emotionally detached than him and very intellectually competent and can read him to the point of eerie detail. But he still want to spend time with her because he is fascinated by how emotionally detached she is sometimes and yet there is a sense of responsibility to care for others. And they could debate for hours because Ino is his devil’s advocate and Itachi LOVES to discuss. He is like a month to a flame. What do you think about that dynamic in their relationship?

I guess I’ll say that while this idea is not something I’m interested in, if you can dream it you can write it.
