“I’m sorry,” Joe whispered, taking his hand.
Martin sniffled, picking up his glass to take another sip. “I should be too, shouldn’t I?”
“Not necessarily, but...what you said that first night had it...did things change?”
He shook his head, squeezing Joe’s hand.
“No, we had that night in the tent and it just all went back. I just...I wanted to feel with her like I...”
Martin took his hand back, and sniffled again taking another drink.
“Like you...what?” Joe whispered, hope rising in his chest.
Martin set the empty glass down and let out a breath. “Like I...feel with you.”
Joe took a deep breath that he let out slowly, grabbing Martin’s hand across the table. “Martin...that night...”
“We said it was a...”
“Mistake,” Joe said softly, his voice shaking, “But I’ve never stopped thinking about it. Not one day since.”
Martin licked his lips. “Neither have I.”
