The last week has been gut wrenching to digest ..it’s been a real a call to action for me to learn more and to openly challenge views! A quote in particular stood out for me. “In a racist society, it’s not enough to be non racist, we must be anti-racist” - Angela Y. Davis. It’s required me to ask some difficult questions of myself, about my relative silence or my lack of engagement with the subject and how this alone makes me in some way complicit to the very broken system, riddled with racism, that I claim to abhor. Immediately I wanted to produce some work in support of the protests. It’s rough around the edges but hopefully this can add to the many amplifying voices for change, this really isn’t the time to remain silent! I really hope we are able to look back at this period as being a poignant milestone in, what must seem like, an endless and exhaustive struggle for equality. ——————— .
