i've been thinking abt this for a couple weeks but what are your thoughts on the character designs in the hasbro spinoffs + zero g. i feel like something about the designs in zero g is definitely off in the same way as the spinoffs but it's hard to pinpoint exactly Why (both why it feels off and why it shares those vibes with the spinoffs).
given that nagamori did the character designs for the spinoffs i can only assume he had some involvement but also like. this is an issue kind of exclusive to this specific era of beyblade, as far as i know
The Hasbro spinoffs are a little strange to look at as a whole. Beywheelz designed characters in a way that kinda comes off as "we have mfb at home," which had to be intentional considering how many characters were also written as off-brand mfb (Leon and Covey being the most obvious cases)
As a slight tangent, Beywheelz as a whole (both anime and toys) was clearly coasting off mfb's popularity, but didn't seem to have much thought put into it (The Daft Brothers on YouTube have a video about Beywheelz. The game design is hilariously bad). Everything about Beywheelz just screams "make it clear it's mfb-adjacent" while also trying to cut as many corners as possible
Beyraiderz for the most part ditched the metal fake aesthetic, which is why the new characters don't have that issue, but since half of the main cast carried over from Wheelz it was bound to still be present in some capacity. Beyraiderz feels like a less extreme version of Cyborg in some ways. I can only speculate about what Beyradierz' development was like, but after Beywheelz flopped I can only assume they decided "don't do Beywheelz again," while still wanting to tie it to Beywheelz enough to bring in all 3 Beywheelz fans
Zero-g designs feel different from the rest of mfb, but I don't think they resemble Beywheelz. The zero-g designs that really stand out are Kira, Captain Arrow, and Yoshio, who all look nothing like what Beywheelz did. As for what is different about zero-g, the season as a whole went for a less mystical aesthetic than previous seasons. A lot of the designs feel like asking someone in 2012 "what will fashion look like in 2020?" except the person you're asking is using mfb as a baseline
There's also Cyborg but the designs there are different for a different reason. Cyborg's designs are a lot less detailed, probably because of the season's low budget. Plus Cyborg's aesthetic as a whole feels so unrelated from any Beyblade gen that it might as well be a different franchise
